Part of the problem is the fact that England is not a sovereign state.

Indeed. That certainly is an ailing element. Firstly we must cast off the European yoke and then chuck out the Scots.

Superpower is so 1985 I'm with our Maldivian friend in looking to a multipolar future where the US and China are the mutually interdependent big brothers to the rising might of the European Nation and Asean+6.

As soon as India gets going Asean+6 is the next rising star on the scene, mark my words:)

In my opinion from watching situations and looking back at the past. My scenario is this,

The US will decline in power, and slowly start to pull itself out of global affairs to an extent. With the Middle East and Africa in turmoil, you can expect to see possible despots show up. The European Union will stay, but as usual because of the economic conditions today will have a rocky road. [Sound Familiar? '29 Crash of Stock Market- Mussolini, Hitler, other despots gain control of countries and take advantage of the economic problems.]
Iran is going to have a hard time with the revolts occurring around its Borders. I doubt they'll get anywhere. Isreal is going to continue to prove its worth and may climb to a regional power, if it uses the near-by revolutions to its advantage. China is going to miss out on the chance to achieve anything much due to its aging population, India and Russia with their military deals in developing weapons and such together might still stay. However, I doubt Russia is going to have much more power than already if it doesn't succumb to another power-change due to the unrest being caused by the Current government affairs. Russia, US, and China are probably going to be the ones who will start to fade some, being more occupied and threatened by domestic issues for stability rather than foreign.

As far as North Korea, I feel there will be a breaking point somewhere, I doubt their regime is going to last much much longer. Its just a question of when. South Korea, holds a bit of promise however lack of resources and its dependency on the west, means that if the western influence of the US starts to fade some, so will South Korea.

In my honest opinion, I'm expecting to see a repeat of '29, a Global economic collapse, that will result from decades of problems in the powerful nations of China, Russia, and the US. Because of this, Dependencies will start to have to stand on their own, and time will tell if they'll make it or not. In the end, I have to say the best candidates for becoming the new world powers will be Japan most definitely, a slight possibility of Canada [wierd right?], India but only slightly. Japan is my best bet.

True, but i'm from the EU (Netherlands) and i think (don't know it for everyone ofcourse) that nobody in europe is waiting to lose there current country/laws/lives... there are way to many differences between the countries, and its not a matter of a few years to get only that equal...

Varies by country. Some countries want federalism, some don't care, some are opposed. That's why it's impossible to tell for now. We'll see a decade or two down the road.

"We're the new Rome"

Look how well that turned out for Rome.

The US is eventually going to fail. They are going to crash and burn solely because of the HUGE emotional gap between those in power and those under power.

I would love to be able to say Canada or one of the more progressive European countries take the spot, Since we know that will never happen with out one hell of a war that killed 99% of us...I would have to say China and it is well deserved and would likely be more respectable then the US, The US is clown country and has been reduced to nothing more then an entertainment hub for the rest of the world. We watch their politics like a comedy drama, people go there to be rich or movie stars...no one goes there because it is a good place to live, Europe and even Canada are better for that and offer more benefits.

The USA has become a clown collage, it is the worlds jester that we can all laugh at. they had people fool with false freedoms at the beginning but we all know better now. seriously the are a joke...they only thing that is not funny is that they own most of the things that could kill us all...like a school bully who tells you jokes but might stab you at any minute.

Hell long live China I welcome them with open arms as they honestly would make me feel more safe, but really as long as the USA has all the nukes they will remain the power as the rest of us are not ready to die...they are so retarded that they don't care and would kill us all rather then give up an ounce of power.

Superpower implies the existence of a state so immense in its power that it has transcended even great power status and no other state, barring maybe one or (at most) two states, who would have to be superpowers themselves can even hope to compete with it on an equal footing.

If many other states rise and do compete with a superpower on an equal footing, then they don't suddenly become superpowers themselves; rather, power, being relative, becomes spread out over multiple great powers and the former superpower loses its superpower status.

A multi-polar system is what we will in all probability return to. To iterate, there are no superpowers in a multipolar system.

^^^^^^^this.

My other bet is on Iran unleashing a plague to destroy America and Madagascar becoming the superpower.
