Do paramilitary units like militias count as military?

It's great for getting in shape. I came in two months ago not even being able to do a pull-up or complete the PFT, and it's helped me enormously.

It would depend on the militia I guess. Some are legitimate, National Guard-esque organizations, some are a bunch of mall ninjas with semi-automatics, and some, afaik, are no shit domestic terrorists.

I did at one time consiter joining the national guard or the navy but was unsure if an immagret could do so and I also choose to finish my education first. I've made the choice that I'll stay out of the military unless the USA comes under attack on her home turf then I'm going to the nearest army recruiter.

In many ways I'd like to join the military - I think a pre-organized life, plenty of outdoors, training and maybe the occasional problem-solving task would suit me. However, I don't agree with any of the conflicts that the UK is currently a part of, and don't think I could ever kill for my country - I'm just not that patriotic. Despite having British citizenship, I didn't grow up in the UK and frankly don't give a shit about it - no offense intended to the Brits. Unfortunately that means that if I ever did go to war, I'd be killing somebody in a war I don't agree with for nothing but the thrill of it. Something that does not sit well with my morals...

Unless they're state sanctioned State Defense Forces I'd say probably not. PMC's like Blackwater or whatever they call themselves now might count, at least for the purposes of talking about military crap.

It depends on how motivated the NCO running the whole thing is, because normally they'd be off Saturdays (that's when my DEP crap was) so the less motivated guys aren't really thrilled to be out of bed Saturday morning trying to teach a bunch of damned civilians the simplest shit.

We have an Infantry Sergeant and two reservist Lance Corporals that lead PT, so it's basically non-stop games and blue falcon exercises.

Learning to march? I didn't do anything on DEP, and I was on it through part of 11th and all of 12th grade.... Not to say they could have taught me anything about marching..... by that time I had been in marching band for 5 years. Military marching is childsplay.

I'm talking like an invasion or civil war. Not just the ONE Attack that worked. With that logic I should have joined before I even came to the states so sadly it's a no go. Although the attacks are a horrific event that should never happen again in not going to ship my ass to a giant sand pit in the name of "freedom" in America.

Never tried it personally, but shooting anything with a sniper rifle is fun (especially if you manage to get one with it's sight adjusted at least to some degree). We mostly just set explosives next to them, ran for cover and proceeded to the next mine. Basically just running back and forth.

Aye, in Lahti I had to show my fellow students how to make the M/85s workable. Though an elderly gentleman who we met during a march mentioned that our equipment seemed pretty practical and comfortable compared to the M/39 he had used.

A big enough rock would propably do the trick. The good thing is, if you fire an RPG at it, it'll propably just pierce the armour on both sides and detonate at a safe distance.

In that case I say I count. As when I am on duty in the GSDF, I am under the Georgia Department of Defense and I answer to the Georgia Code of Military Justice.

Personally. I would never serve in the federal military. Army, Navy, Marines ect. Nothing against them I just think of Georgia as my country. Hence why I joined the Georgia State Defense Force. An autherized and legitamate part of the Georgia Department of Defense. All volunteers and not supported by Georgia taxpayers. We pretty much have to supply all of our own equipment. Plus it makes me feel very proud and honored to serve when I am recieving no benefits for my service. But my service benefits others.

It's a good thing you're doing. I'm considering joining the local Regional Forces, since FDF reservists get little action, thanks to the Defense Forces being underfunded.
