The only way we could do that would be to abolish government. It just isn't practical to try to abolish the government right now. The only way to get to utopia is through revolution and that's extremely dangerous and unpredictable. We'd be more likely to get a government worse than the one we have right now if we went down that route (see: the French and Russian Revolutions, which both led to totalitarian regimes).

I agree by the way that taxation is technically legalized theft. That is why taxation is only a necessary evil to the extent that it brings in the revenue to run the necessary functions of government. Beyond that, it is a pure evil.

OP, you surely despise America and wish to see it collapse right? I mean, I can't fathom any other possible way in which you would wish to "fix" America with a flat tax other than if you were seeking to end its existence.

A flat tax is amazingly stupid. It negatively affects the poor far more than it affects the wealthy.

A poor person might spend 80% of their income on meeting their basic needs. A wealthy person might spend 20%. If they both pay the same percentage of their income in taxes, the poor person has a much smaller percentage of their meagre income to spend on other things than the wealthy person of their massive income.

The President cannot enact any changes to the tax code. Only Congress can do that. Write to your elected representatives instead.


The President may propose legislation to congress. In fact he has both the power and the duty to propose legislation he finds to be necessary and expedient. Article II Section 3 of the US Constitution.

Yes a better written petition would have advised the President make recommendation to the Congress, I would jsut assume it is implied because other wise 90% of the petitions on the petition the President page would be beyond the President's powers otherwise.

Firstly, the IRS is not a robber. If you want things like roads, schools, a military, federal prisons, a functioning government, public works, garbage cleanup, public area maintenance, and other little things, you have to pay for them. Guess how you pay.

This includes taxes, something which George Washington proved the US government had the right to do by putting down the Whiskey Rebellion.

They don't pay 10%, though, they usually pay nothing or a negative tax rate. Probably nobody under the 25% bracket pays a substantial amount of the enacted rate.
