Your beliefs on: Abortion: I am pro-choice. That means I am against taxpayer funding and for the right of conscience. I support the ban on partial birth abortion.
Affirmative Action: "The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race." - John Roberts
Authoritarianism: Absolutely wrong.
Conscription: A form of slavery. Any country that needs an army of slaves to defend itself deserves to lose.
Copyright law: I oppose SOPA/PIPA, favor the repeal of DMCA and support reducing copyright terms significantly. I also support requiring copyright holders to "use it or lose it" as trademark holders are required to do.
Corporate personhood: Its crazy to abolish limited liability for corporations. I don't want people to end up destitute just because they are unfortunate enough to own a single share of stock in a failed business. I also don't see what the big deal is with people having the right to form corporations and engage in political speech.
Death penalty: I'm in favor of it for murderers when we are 100% certain that they committed the crime. In all other circumstances, it is disproportionate to the crime.
Democracy: I'm fine with some democracy, but a Bill of Rights to protect the minority's rights are essential and I favor some undemocratic elements as checks and balances.
Drug legalization: I support legalization of marijuana, but not hard drugs.
Economic ideology: Capitalism is the only economic system that works. All forms of socialism are discredited as methods to produce material prosperity. "Resource-based economy" is just another name for what Marx called "Utopian Socialism." To me, there's nothing controversial about these views. They're simply reality.
Evolution/Creationism: Evolution is true. I think most jobs can be performed quite fine by people that believe in Creationism, though, so it isn't as big of a deal as most people make it, but I suspect this issue is primarily symbolic anyway.
Feminism: I strongly oppose the hate movement that seeks to oppress men in the name of "equality" for women and which calls itself by the name of feminism. I also oppose the elements of feminism that think that men and women making different choices voluntarily and ending up with different outcomes is a problem. I agree with any self-identified "feminist" who actually believes in equal rights for both men and women.
Free speech: I favor most of what the US Supreme Court says about free speech. I disagree with their views on free speech in high schools. I believe speech codes on public college campuses in the US are unconstitutional and would be laughed out of court, so college students should just ignore them (they also don't need to ask permission to engage in free speech).
Gay marriage: I believe marriage should be defined as a union of 2 or more persons, all of whom voluntarily consent the the union. All terms of marriages should be agreed to voluntarily by the parties involved and courts should not be allowed to impose any divorce terms without the consent of all parties.
Global warming: I don't know if it is true or not and I don't really care. If it is true, we can't do anything to stop it without causing severe damage to the economy and things are already bad enough for my country in Obama's zero growth economy.
Gun control: I don't believe gun control can be passed in the US without constitutional amendment, so it is a non-starter whether it is desirable or not.
Immigration (legal): I believe in completely open borders, so obviously I favor all immigration. I do believe there should be some standards for people that apply for citizenship, but I'm not sure what exactly. I oppose voting rights for non-citizens.
Immigration (illegal): Redundant
Imperialism/Militarism: I'm in favor of national defense. I don't believe in nation-building and I don't believe my country should be dictating what policies other countries should adopt.
Internet censorship: I believe Internet access should be fast, affordable and anonymous. I'm against censoring anything.
Israel/Palestine: It is up to those nations to settle their differences. I'd like to see both nations repudiate the extremist parties that instigate perpetual war between them (Likud and Hamas), but if they don't want peace, that's their problem.
LGBTQ equal rights: I'm definitely for equal rights for LGB. I'm not exactly comfortable with T, but I don't want to ban sex change operations.
Police: The police perform vital functions in society. I want them to have every power they can to keep us safe that is compatible with the Bill of Rights. Police brutality does need to be stopped and I do favor more limits on their search powers.
Pornography: Pornography is free speech. I am especially offended by the argument that porn is somehow "harmful" to women.
Prostitution: I favor legalization and regulation. I hold a similar view of the argument that prostitution "harms" women. Banning porn or prostitution violates the rights of both men (by depriving them of pleasure) and women (by depriving them of their right to work in a profession that pays pretty well and requires little real skill).
Racism: Racism, in all its forms, is repulsive. I believe that the best way to combat racism is to refute it. Even if average IQs are different among different races (I'm not taking a position on that), that does not justify racism. Even if Martin Luther King had character flaws (not taking a position on this either), that doesn't mean the cause he championed was wrong. Even if the Holocaust deniers are right (I'm 99.9% they aren't), Nazi Germany remains an evil regime.
Redistribution of wealth: I believe most wealthy people got rich because they created businesses that benefited society, so resentment of the wealthy makes no sense. I can understand resentment of the crooks that use their political connections to get rich at the expense of society and I'm not going to object too strongly to redistributing their wealth.
Separation of church and state: I generally agree with the US Supreme Court's rulings and I favor separation of church and state. I don't know if it is necessary to remove 10 Commandments monuments from public property, though. I am against politicized Christianity. If they can't defend their beliefs in secular terms, they shouldn't try to legislate them.
Taxation: Taxation is necessary to fund government. Tax policy should be designed to get the amount of revenue needed to fund necessary government services. Tax policy should not be used for social engineering or to harm people you don't like. I believe the US government has too much revenue at present and I'm in favor of reducing taxes to reduce the amount of revenue they take in and cutting spending in order to balance the budget. That would have the added benefit of stimulating the economy.
Unions: Workers should be able to join unions if they wish. I favor banning political contributions and unions and also favor right to work laws. I oppose card-check.
Universal health care: I believe the problem with the health care system in the US is health insurance. I support a method to get people to stop buying health insurance for routine visits. Getting rid of insurance bureaucracy and making the cost of care directly known to the customer will lower health care costs. If we had the same system for groceries that we have for health care, groceries would be exorbitantly priced too (actually, I think the grocery industry is a model for how to re-structure the health care industry).
Welfare: I don't know if we can cut welfare too much right now because of the state of the economy. Once we have a thriving economy, we should get as many people off of welfare as possible, with the goal of eventually getting rid of most of it. I favor a responsible phasing-out of Social Security and Medicare because those programs are unsustainable.
Worker's rights: The best method to secure the rights of workers is a strong economy. I think it is outrageous that some employers think they should have any control over anything relating to an employee's personal life when they are not on the job, so long as it doesn't interfere with their ability to show up for work and do their job. For example, I think it is out of line for an employer to tell employees how to style their hair or who they can date.
Youth rights: I'm generally in favor of youth rights. I'm no longer in favor of lowering the voting age because I'm worried that younger voters may be less likely to cast an informed vote. Other than that, I'm in agreement with most of what the youth rights movement advocates. I agreed with Newt Gingrich's suggestion in the 2012 GOP primaries that child labor be legalized, but since it is Newt Gingrich (the walking bad-idea machine), he advocated it in the least articulate way possible. I view child labor as being a youth rights issue and I'm in favor of allowing kids to work (but I favor laws to prevent parents from forcing their kids to work or stealing their kids income).
Rate your opinion of the following countries from 1 to 5, with 1 being strongly favorable, 3 being neutral, and 5 being strongly unfavorable: China: 4 (China does make many nice things, but their government is oppressive)
Cuba: 5 (the US should just lift the embargo and take away Castro's excuse to justify the poverty caused by his discredited economic policies)
France: 4 (its France)
Iran: 4 (oppressive theocracy, but not a military threat to the US)
Israel: 3 (I wish they'd come to their senses and make peace instead of waging perpetual war)
Japan: 2 (a relatively free nation)
North Korea: 5 (hell on Earth)
Russia: 2 (I believe the issues between my country and the Russians are mostly misunderstandings and Russia should be one of our allies)
South Korea: 3 (I've heard too many stories about tyrannical things their government has done, but they do have excuses given their neighbor)
Syria (Assad regime): 4 (don't know much about them, other than the fact that they are an unfree regime and the rebels probably aren't much better)
Sweden: 4 (a tyrannical nation that apparently thinks it is "rape" if the woman regrets it after the fact, as seen with the accusations against Julian Assange)
United Kingdom: 2 (generally a free nation)
United States: 1 (yes we have plenty of flaws, but we are the freest nation on Earth and other nations are worse)
Venezuela: 5 (a Communist dictatorship posing as a democracy)
Other questions: What would you call your political ideology? I don't consider myself ideological any more. I used to be an anarcho-capitalist, but I've matured and no longer believe in utopias. Ancap would be a disaster in practice because a free market in the content of laws is not a good thing and that's the most likely form of ancap to actually exist. It would be inaccurate to describe me as "libertarian" because I don't believe in the non-aggression axiom 100% of the time. It would be obviously inaccurate to call me a "liberal" or a "conservative," so those are out as well.
What is your religion? Atheist
Do you believe that morality is subjective? No. There are things that are absolutely right and things that are absolutely wrong.
What is your Political Compass score? (optional) I'll skip this because you can probably guess from my answers. I preferred to answer in detail because these issues are far too complex for a simple support or oppose.
