Well I never knew that the Texas legislature was Congress.

It is only in violation of the 14th amendment not the first.

It is still violating an amendment, isn't it?

Why do you need to take an oath to graduate though? And why can't this oath be edited to be neutral to all religions or non-religious people? This oath has no point and is discrimanatory. If I were to live in Arizona, I shouldn't have to announce a belief in a higher power in order to graduate. Even though I would be lying through my teeth, but it is a matter of principle. I shouldn't have to sully my own, personal atheistic and anti-theistic beliefs just to cater to some hogwash, republican, christian circle-jerk.

And again, why does someone need to take an oath to graduate from school?! What is the point of that? Are they just going with the basic assumption that everyone is a terrorist or against the country until they take some sort of oath? What is the point in all this?

When you are born and become an adult you'll be fighting in a holy war against the Muslims and all the others who worship Satan who are trying to destroy the nation God intended to live on forever. Taking this oath out of pure respect to the one who created you and gave you life is the best way to re-pay what you owe.

Is there any rational behind having an oath? It just seems to be a random demand for loyalty. And given that anything that breaks that oath would be illegal anyway...

It certainly seems a bit too over-the-top to be serious, but unfortunately, I have known people who sincerely think like this. In this case I'm going to guess that it's a poor attempt at parody, but you never know.

He might mean it. Religious zealots tend to think the same. I think its because they dont actually believe in their imaginary friend. After all if someone can look at the bible and go "wow what a steaming load" then it makes the believers doubt themselves. After all after five or six it gets hard to believe in santa. God is equally hard to swallow if you have the ability (rare these days i might add) to think
