North Korea to target the United States

Postby Gig em Aggies » Thu Jan 24, 2013 9:05 am

http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/01/23/16669567-north-korea-rocket-launches-nuclear-tests-will-target-us?lite&ocid=msnhp&pos=2

OP thoughts: Looks like a second Korean War is one step closer. This time NKorea says it will "target" the United States in it's next series of scheduled test which include a high level nuclear test, & another rocket launch. I had hoped that when Kim Jong-Un rose to power that he would help better relations between the US, South Korea. But he turned out just like his father and grandfather a egocentric selfish unrespecting person.

in other news: the UNSC decides to join in the situation, I didn't know that Master Chief and his pals had any interest in South East Asia.

North Korea do things like this almost every year. They would not carry out this threat because they know the United States could beat them in a war.

The Koreans are just rattling their metaphorical sabers at America's literal long-range artillery. And considering that China is now turning against them, they have to realize that they can't last much longer.

Good. It's not like the US will always threat nations. They should be made feel that they can not act as they want on the earth.

Such is the situation with NK.

Didn't they do that already, and threaten to hit Hawaii on the 4th of July? IIRC, they tried and it was a dud.

North Korea just seems to do this every year, probably for PR reasons to its own people less than us, they're more or less a laughing stock internationally.

What did you expect? On this issue, North Korea has been rather clear and unambiguous. In 2003, several weeks prior to the Six-Party Talks, the regime announced a set of conditions for nuclear dismantlement, including a bi-lateral non-aggression pact with the United States to replace the 1953 Armistice Agreement, which would undermine the justification that the US has for maintaining troops in South Korea (a primary reason why the proposal was promptly rejected in Washington, although the demands were probably overbearing).

The statement said this: "It is clear that as long as the US insists on its hostile policy toward the DPRK, the latter will not abandon its nuclear deterrent force. Therefore, the US switchover in its hostile policy toward the DPRK comes as a precondition for the solution to the nuclear issue. It will be considered that the US has practically given up its hostile policy toward the DPRK when a non-aggression treaty with legal binding is concluded and diplomatic relations are established between the DPRK and the US".

I think that represents a real concern within P'yongyang that military engagement is a possibility, for which they are unprepared and without support. I expect there will be no progress made on the nuclear issue until some form of diplomatic normality is established, and some bi-laterial agreement made.

We have advanced missile defense systems. We won't get hit. I can't say for our allies in Asia though.

Course, all this means is that North Korea isn't using its missile programmes for peaceful purposes.

Not really. The US has invaded pretty much every country in Central America at least once for starters.

Considering that they're threatening us with a "nuclear" "strike" I'd say its justified. Even if it is a bluff, you've gotta call them on it. They've got a pair of duces, we've got 4 aces.

I think the US has done more than enough tests on delivery methods to safely hit North Korea.

So any sort of missile test is now a direct attack on the United States of America?

Does anyone take their constant hollow threats seriously? At all?

No. But a missile "test" that is on a coincidental path to Hawaii should be shot down at the very least, followed with conventional retaliation. A nuclear attack on any of our allies should result in them getting turned into a glowing glass crater.

So its only missiles that point in the direction of Hawaii?

Interesting, I wonder how many US missile tests have been on a 'coincidental' path towards other countries.

Why do you hate civilians so much?
Don't be deceived when our Revolution has finally been stamped out and they tell you things are better now even if there's no poverty to see, because the poverty's been hidden...even if you ever got more wages and could afford to buy more of these new and useless goods which these new industries foist on you, and even if it seems to you that "you never had so much" - that is only the slogan of those who have much more than you.
