I think that Israel is already quite secular. Not the most secular, but the whole Labour Zionist background to its establishment means it's hardly a theocracy. Any discrimination would most likely (and correct me if I'm wrong those who know better) lie within the community, which is harder to legislate against.

I'd like to see Israel, Gaza and the West Bank united into one secular state where Arabs and Jews are treated equally. However, if Gaza and the West Bank prefer independence, or some other situation, they should get that.

What do you think this sectarian violence is motivated by? Competition for resources, fear of the unknown, material gain. We live in a material world, mass confiscations of property suit unscrupulous people, creating a malign other tends to solidify a population behind said people, making a certain elite quite powerful. Whether it's a conscious conspiracy or not this trend can be seen throughout history.
