Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles; most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation.”

Many gays have fathers that weren't around or were abusive. Gays are seeking a father figure's love (these are probably the 'women' in the gay relationship).
Sexual abuse: sometimes but I will say less than half of the cases (just a guess).
Mental disorder is the biggest reason. Sometimes I question why God would make somebody gay. However, it is probably to tempt the gay into sin. We are given temptations because God wants to test our strength. We all have different temptations and gays have an unusual one. The best idea is to try to learn how to be attracted to women or to become asexual.
God's placing of temptations is his version os 'tough love.' I believe in God but sometimes I wish he was not so harsh.Other Christians get angry with my comments like this.

I was not abused, did not have a distant father, and my pansexuality sure as fuck isn't a mental disorder. Your beliefs on the matter are complete bullshit.Freiheit Reich wrote:Same as why do people decide to abuse animals or have an attraction to children. I forgot to mention the rebel factor. Now many think it is cool to be gay. Also it makes older people mad (like parents and grandparents). Before people got tatoos to be rebels, now people have stepped it up and become gay. Why do you think there are more gays in San Francisco versus St. Louis? Being a rebel is cooler in San Francisco and people feel the need to be extreme there and fit in with their 'cool' friends.

Yeah, any explanation but the one given by all relevant experts, the one backed up by all the data, and that gay people themselves give.
I know that ostriches don't actually bury their heads in the sand, but I'm beginning to wonder about humans.

Yes. It's cool to be made fun of all through high school.
