Prove it and explain why you would choose to be gay in light of the incredible oppression against gay people, including lifetime imprisonment and the death penalty.

You can see where we're getting it, with all this "no self control makes you gay!" Makes it sound like you'd be gay if you were less controlled, as in, you're attracted to other men(or women), but you suppress those feelings because you think they're sinful.

Oh yes, you'd be surprised how many homophobes are actually self-hating gays. People like Ted Haggard and such.

Again, it is the fact that you ascribe homosexuality to a lack of self-control. As I said, I lack self-control, and I am not even slightly tempted to have sex with my fellow man. I draw the line at tomboys.

You, on the other hand, seem to have an attraction to people of your same gender. Such that it requires effort on your part not to act on this attraction. That makes you at least bi.

Now why don't you stop this foolishness and come out?

You're the one who said that homosexuality was a matter of a lack of self-restraint. The only way you could reach that conclusion is if you were a repressed homosexual.

And if you are, that's cool. I'd just encourage you to stop hating yourself, because like a good person who actually takes what Jesus says to heart, I will love you and accept you as my human brother regardless.

Generally, yes.

Most evolutionary biologists who study it have ruled out any single "gay gene". There are a number of genes that could, or do in fact effect sexuality, and many times the interaction is complex with the environment. It's not a matter of turning on a switch and viola suddenly you're gay. At best, they've determined that the research favors a high probability of some genetic component.

My nation DOES NOT reflect my political views. The interplanetary-level Federation government is libertarian only for realism purposes, and functions more like a confederation. Since it has such a large territory to manage, the federal bureaucracy can only provide the bare essentials efficiently, while most other decisions are devolved down to the planetary governments.

Alright, as it is a choice... choose it.

Come on, put your money where your mouth is, and some other things where your mouth is too. Prove that homosexuality is a choice for once and for all time. And I don't want to see tears running down your eyes, I don't want, "well, if I have to..." sex, you have to enjoy it. Because enjoying it is the gay way.

And if you can't do that, or are unwilling to try, then maybe you should reconsider whether it is a choice.

Because many parents would rather not face the prospect of their child pledging their life to sin. I'm sorry you expect your family to "evolve and accept" you, and I'm sure they still love you. There is no reason to believe that there is just one gay gene.

However, you're relying on a few assumptions about genetics that don't quite work: the first being that homosexuals never reproduce (perfectly possible, just not with each other) and the second being that such a gene might not need to be passed down directly by a homosexual. There's a theory that homosexuality evolved as a measure to support the children of relatives and pass down one's genetic information as an uncle or aunt instead, similar to how meerkat family all care for the children of the two "lead meerkats," who are usually genetically related to the meerkats around them. In fact, iirc (this is in a book I no longer own, so I can't source) meerkats are more likely to respond to the calls of pups based on how closely related they are.

No it wasn't.
"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."—former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman

The idea was first floated by psychologists/neuroscientists around the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, iirc. Can't say they were pro-gay (...at all) but they also weren't saying that they believed homosexuality was a choice.

Genetics and hormonal imbalances in the womb, I'd guess. Environmental factors probably do have an effect, but I dare say that the effect is so small it's negligible.

Funny how no reputable psychologist has claimed so, then... On the other hand, a fair number of reputed biologists have gone on the record to say that it is indeed genetic factors which cause homosexuality.

I picked the cop out one. Not because I know and I don't want to say, but because I don't know and I try not to talk out of my ass.
"I remember the first time I died. Facing down my foe was to be expected. Even inevitable. Resurrected, my soul awoke and my battles were fought harder. Death became my friend. I remember the first time I died. But dying gets easier; it's how you die that leaves your mark. Prepare to die..."
