Their point is that everyone is bisexual and sexual orientation is culturally constructed. Note they said "choose unconsciously".

These are doctors and scientists that are not motivated to declassify a legitamate mental disorder due to political pressures during the hippy era (1973). Actually, yes, a bunch of LGBT people did get the APA to look into the classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1972. However, they had no part in actually determining whether or not it shoudl be classified as one or not. The group that the APA set up to look into the classification arrived at the decision to declassify it as a mental illness of their own accord, and because they saw no reduction in the quality of life inherent to homosexuality. lrn2lookn2shit

Note that this is the same reason why being transgendered is being removed from the DSM-V. Kiddie-diddling and cat-fucking, on the other hand, inherently involve sexual activity with a being that can't give consent. This will never change, and that is why pedophilia and zoophilia will remain classified as mental disorders.

I can accept the person but not the actions. By ignoring the gayness it is possible to get along with gays. My idea takes away any tensions. Avoidance is not always a bad thing. Gay marriage makes it harder to avoid and/or hide the issue. I accept the person, not the devious sexual behavior.

No, because the mind of a 12 year old is not fully developed in terms of decision making. Anybody who's taken even a high school psychology course can tell you this is proven fact. A 12 year old can't make an informed decision about whether or not to have sex, therefore, we have age of consent laws high enough so that only people who's brains have matured enough to make such a decision are legally able to make the decision. More or less the same reasons we don't let, say, 6 year olds drive.
