I think so. It is aspiring to be America. Look at what France is doing to Mali.

The government asked them to step in and fix what is a serious problem. I don't see the issue.

Sort of. Except not really. This is a once-off, small scale operation.

Accepting a request for military aid from the government of country they have a history with?

They'll need to become a fair bit more active in much more questionable circumstances to even qualify as maybe trying for world deputy.

Mali used to be a French colony did it not? I don't see how France intervening when asked by the nation they formerly occupied is anything but being helpful.

Not really, if anything, it's just helping out its old colony from Muslim extremists, because at the end of the day, if I were French and Muslim fanatics threatened to blow up the Eiffel Tower then I would side with the government on eradicating them... (And yes Al Quaida did threaten to blow up the Eiffel Tower in 2011)

Pff... France is responding to pleas from the government for a country that was once part of its empire, and is taking the initiate in fighting some very unpleasant radical islamists. Hardly trying to be the "world police," or emulating the U.S..

No, their intervention efforts seem reasonable and frankly, as an American, I can't help but feel a tad bit insulted that you would try to take away our our "Wannabe World Police" badge and give it to of all countries, France.

In a word: no.

Do you really think a socialist president wants to play "world policeman?" Or do you think even Sarkozy would wanted to have been?

What nonsense.

They're doing the right thing in this case, who cares. So long as those poor civilians under the rule of those extremists are liberated.

No. Mali is a former French colony which explicitly requested assistance. Troops from other West African countries are deploying soon, too.

From watching the news (Belgium) it appears they do wish to fully stabilise the country and 'put it back up its feet' so it can be a stable nation in the long run. It is said so far 750 French soldiers are currently present in Mali and they are to increase this number to 2,500 in the upcoming weeks.

There is indeed a certain fear that it might turn out to be another 'Afghanistan' so the French do not wish to prolong the war and equally focus on the humanitarian and political aspect of the operation. Additionally on the news Malian government officials, soldiers and even civilians in both south and northern Mali stated they approved France's military presence.

Lets see, local government which had a good history with France and asked France for help with insurgency which it was failing to deal with itself. Dont see how France even makes it to world police constable.

In relation to former posts, including my own I can only conclude you sir are wrong, way wrong and the current situation is no aspect similar to America's former interventions.
