Haven't you heard of the CDC Zombie Apocalypse Campaign?

It was a stunt a while back that played off the whole zombie/bath-salts spate as a way to generate publicity around promoting disaster preparedness.

Go read up on it. It was a joke by the CDC to promote disaster preparedness under the guise of zombie preparedness. Hence why I mentioned the thing when and where I did...

Hmm. I hadn't heard of it before.

I tend not to spend my life worrying about preparing for events that, should they occur, would almost certainly kill me long before I had a chance to worry about whether I have enough water stockpiled to make it through a year.

If you seriously think the world, as a whole, is threatened by either - and what's more so, you think that stockpiling soup and ammunition will help you to any real degree - then you fit into that category I mentioned above.

I'm perfectly willing to not survive the downfall of human civilisation if it means I don't have to spend a fortune, in money and time, making largely futile preparations.

Yeah, none will end the world, but what if that natural disaster was in your area?
Viruses? More lethal.
It all depends on your location at the time.

I don't think it's paranoid to be prepared for the inevitable. Natural disasters? That's inevitable. Pandemics? Yeah. That's also a major concern for people who aren't clinically deceased. A lot of this comes from my experiences during Hurricane Sandy, among other such disasters, so I'm speaking firsthand when I say that being caught with your pants down in that kind of situation is not fun.

Why do people assume they'll survive the pandemic/disaster/etc in the first place? If it kills off most of humanity, odds are you'll be in that group.

Not if you're ready. One can always aid one's chances of survival. Think of it like stacking the deck in your favor.

What natural disaster? Be specific.

HorusLand wrote:Viruses? More lethal.

The more lethal a virus is the slower it spreads and the more likely it can be safely contained.

Neo Arcad wrote:I don't think it's paranoid to be prepared for the inevitable.

Global apocalypse is inevitable? Ookay dear.

Neo Arcad wrote:Natural disasters? That's inevitable.

Packing away a few soup cans, drinking water and extra batteries for a flashlight in a cupboard somewhere is a reasonable precaution for such things. Stockpiling ammunition, 10 months of food and buying a biohazard suit is not. Hence the paranoia internet diagnosis.

Neo Arcad wrote: Pandemics? Yeah. That's also a major concern for people who aren't clinically deceased.

No, not really.

And, again, there are reasonable precautions to take and there are unreasonable precautions. You crossed the border into Crazytown a while back there.

That would/should be the most important thing on your list ...community.

Remember, during the Pleistocene, Neolithic and dark-ages -the only way people survived was through communities (tribes) being organized.

Now me ...that's a different story. When the apocalypse comes it's most likely going to be me in my basement with a keg of beer and a couple of back issues of JUGGS Magazine.
