I just think that these things might be less pressing issues if people stopped bringing them up all the time. I like girls. You like whatever (because honestly I don't care). Can we please move on?

How is it faulty? Without sexuality and the attraction it creates, what would be the incentive for reproduction? If a male weren't interested in the female form, what would make him persue a mate?

Reproduction has fuck all to do with sexuality.

Reproduction is the creation of a child.

Sexuality is the sexual personality of an individual; who they're attracted to and how they express it.

The end goal of sexual expression, by the way, is not reproduction. That's why we have condoms.

Sexuality is the catalyst for reproduction, if you aren't attracted to someone you won't have sex with them. It is nature's way of "tricking" us into reproducing.

Not necessarily. You could be drunk. You could be a prostitute. You could be pressured into it.

Lots of things could happen.

Of course, having sex doesn't necessarily result in reproduction.

Birth of an offspring doesn't necessarily result in successful procreation (offspring may die at or soon after birth, or any time before it procreates, rendering it "null" from an evolutionary perspective).

It's almost as if sex is just one small part of the bigger picture of reproduction!

Bi/Trans

Postby Jabberwock (Ancient) » Mon Jan 14, 2013 1:18 pm

Gawd, this is so typical of me. Hello everyone, I'm Zoey. This is my first post on this forum. I just discovered this site last night and then created my tree-hugging utopia. I'm a post-operative trans woman and I'm bi. When I came out as bi (long after I had started transition) he remarked, "Gee Zoey, you can't make up your mind about anything, can you?" Bleh.

I kind of feel like my sexuality is a huge pendulum slowly swinging my preferences from gay (that would be with a woman, for those of you keeping score) to hetero. I have maintained relationships with men through feeling strongly about women, it's just not fireworks for a while.

Okay, this feels like it''s been a really awkward post, so I think my work is done here. *waves* Very nice to meet all of you.

Yes, there's the parenting part as well, but I'm talking about the process in which we acquire our desire for the opposite sex/gender. Without some sort of attraction the chances of reproduction would be drastically lowered.

Nothing awkward about that. :3 I'm also a bisexual female, and I can somewhat relate to your pendulous simile. I think a decent amount of bisexuals go through phases were they prefer a certain gender. Its nothing odd or anything to feel bad about.

Again, the chance of FERTILIZATION might be lower, sure. But whether this would result in a decrease in reproduction across the species is quite debatable.

After all, there are species which only mate once in their lifetimes. Yet they do just fine. There are species which only go into heat at specific intervals, yet they do just fine.

What's particularly fascinating about human sexytimes is how impressive the failure rate is, from a reproductive standpoint. Our females have concealed fertility, so there's no way for a male to know if he's having sex with a female who can become pregnant in the first place. The overwhelming majority of fertilizations will never lead to the production of a baby, either.

No, you're making a lot of leaps in your thinking, and they actually don't add up that well. Our attractions to one another are arguably more important in terms of how they impact our likelihood of caring for already-born offspring, than how they impact our likelihood of fucking.

I've never been to a pride parade. But I have been to Mardi Gras. Which, based on what I've seen of pride parades on TV, seems to be fairly similar in terms of what people wear. Looks like fun.

What I find interesting and sad about the whole exchange is that somehow, he thinks dressing up like that, for a pride parade, is the standard way of dressing for gay people as evidenced by his taking offense and somehow thinking that this gives gay people a bad name. I mean, I dress like a cat every Halloween, does that mean that dressing like a cat is the standard way of dressing for all bisexuals, as I identify as one? No.

Much like Halloween (although not quite), pride parades are a way of expression, and of showing pride and acceptance at being gay. It's a fun day. Besides, who the fuck cares if someone decides to dress that way every day? Not I. If it makes them happy, who the fuck am I to point fingers? What they're doing doesn't harm me nor it sullies the name of gay people. So again, he needs to get the fuck over it.

Nope, the problem is not the thong wearing, gold painted gay person enjoying a pride parade. The problem is people like The Daktanese Technocracy, who hiding behind the ''I take offense so others don't sully gays all over the world and how dare they ho hum' veneer lie through their teeth, when in reality, they're just homophobes.
