Nope, because his skates left the ice with the intention of delivering a head shot. That's what makes it illegal. If his skates would've stayed on the ice, and he went shoulder to chest, it would've been fine. Weird thing is, Kings would've still lost game one. There was no need for that brutality on Bolland's behalf.

They (the offices) will just notice the shoulder hitting more than the leap.

What they'll care about is the head shot. And it makes sense from their financial perspective. Smart players are fun to watch. Players who have head injuries aren't. So they're going to brutally persecute head shots, and frankly, I'm ok with that.
