8. "With the less educated" - not in my experience. I've been around some of the best educated people in Britain, many of them were just as language-phobic. I've been around people who work at warehouses - they were very open. Education has nothing to do with it.

I live in a nationalist area in NI so i see a lot of hatred for the English on a weekly basis. Depending on what events are on, some times a daily basis. And while i believe a lot of people have good reasons to hate England for some of the things it has done, i do think it is unfair that all of the English should be chucked together as one big group that is solely responsible for all that happened even decades or centuries later. It is not right to hate someone from England or any other country based on something the country did say, one hundred years ago, but a lot of people have this idea in their heads... particularly where i live. However i do not believe it is as common as you think it is, bar where i live i have seen next to nothing of Anti Anglo-sentiment, and there are countries out there that alongside its inhabitants are treated far worse than England such as America and Russia to name two big ones.

For myself i don't like the English government, never have. But for English people themselves im fine, met some myself and they were decent people who i got along with absolutely fine. So unless you count hating the government im not anti-English.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Maybe you're the one who has the most trouble with your accent because you may be overly self-conscious? Assuming people think you're a posh prick might make you less enjoyable, resulting in those people thinking you're a posh prick who thinks he's better than them.

I dislike those sorts of places.

Last time I went in, I basically did a u-turn and walked out the front door again.

But then that place was a shit-hole that's now long gone. It's turned into something of a gastro-pub (kind of) which does shit-hot sausage rolls and scotch eggs, both of which are about the size of your fist. The scotch egg's still got runny yolk inside.

Om nom nom.

England's easy to hate because it's the biggest part of the UK and is inherently right-wing. But no; there's no real anglophobia.

While I will admit to occasionally being self conscious about my accent, in the long term, most people find me likeable...

The situation I described was more a situation where I've pretty much only said "Hello"/a short greeting and they'll pipe up with "Well look at you, you posh snob!" occasionally followed by bad imitation. ONLY in England have I ever seen such pathetic bias based on accent.

I've also seen people stereotype a perfectly nice, intelligent guy as a "Northern retard" for his accent.

There is a (Bad) reason for this by the way.
Traditionally, grammar schools and universities (Up until very, very recently) would teach people to speak with a BBC english, for a very good reason. To facilitate better communication among teachers and students, and to allow better communication among academics as well as foreign academics, as "BBC" english is the most NEUTRAL english with the least amount of accent.
They ceased this practice recently, but the stigma of NOT speaking "BBC" english has stuck around in those who were alive while it was common practice. It does not apply to new generations, it's a QUIRK that this exists.

Well I'm English, a 'Geordie' to those of you who know what that is, and I generally dislike living here, and here are the reasons why:

Like everyone who lives north of Watford, I'm classed as a 'Northerner', a stupid, drunken animal who has no idea of what culture, fashion or education is, and speaks with a retarded accent, and that's generally the view of most 'Southerners'. The North of England could be a fallout zone for all they care, because everything important, roads, specialist hospitals, schools, are built in the South, all the jobs are created in the South.
There is still a class system in Britain, the Rich get richer, the best jobs, all because of who they know, and how much cash they can splash; while the Poor are stuck at the bottom, viewed as a statistic, struggling to find work or start a normal family life.
(I could say the weather, but that's being pedantic)
The people. While the North is generally seen as being a friendlier place, I still feel most people on this island are genuinely hostile. The few that do say a friendly 'hello', or apologise should they accidently bump into you, are dwarfed by the number that stare you down with a look of pure disdain and disgust, or simply shout curses at you.
Even the place; England was always seen as a land of rolling meadows, vibrant historical buildings, and the stereotypical country village. They say ignorance is bliss... every available square inch is covered with council estates, the eye sores known as high rise council flats, and cramped 1970's office buildings that they cant be arsed to get rid of.

But thats my view, discuss it if you will... I don't care

hatred is preferable to contempt.
"We fought for the public good and would have enfranchised the people and secured the welfare of the whole groaning creation, if the nation had not more delighted in servitude than in freedom"

Fair enough, but I do object to the whole "north of the Watford Gap" thing - that's a Londonism. Not all southerners are like Londoners.

Also, significant proportions of the country are nice and green, especially places like the Welsh borders and Oxfordshire.

Because that statistic must include Scotland and Wales, which are significantly more mountainous than England and therefore not as suitable to build on.

Be careful when you do.
Environmental groups tend to discount farms and wildlife preserves of all things to make the statistic very low.
They tend to only count totally abandoned land etc.
The government tends to include farming.

If you want only wild areas (Including preserves and such) go for an independent source.
I think farms should be counted however.
