It doesn't matter that Brythonic and British used to be the same. Nowdays we've got two thirds calling themselves Welsh, a 20-25% calling themselves English and very very few calling themselves British. And that doens't even matter- the British monarch is not Welsh tradition.

two thirds of the british population do not call themselves welsh. You talk about welsh tradition..... 800 years ago. It has been tradition for the past 799 years

Two thirds of the Welsh population (i.e. living in Wales) call themselves Welsh. I thought that was obvious.
And the British monarchy is British tradition. Not Welsh tradition. How can a monarchy forced on us by an external force be our tradition?

And should the queen vanish, people will suddenly stop coming to London, right?

In a previous debate on the topic, I think we found that monarchy-related-tourism accounts for 10% of tourist revenue.

So, no - people might not stop coming completely - but there probably would be a painful and unnecessary drop in tourist income.

I think its pretty obvious Welsh people would call themselves welsh in certain contexts, same as someone from glasgow would call themselves Glasweigan opposed to scottish sometimes

Britishness isn't common in Wales, even less common than Englishness. This is actually more true in the South than in the North!
The nationalist party doesn't deny wanting an independent Wales, and doesn't denounce the SNP. At all.

Can you give us a link to prove this

The 2011 census. A link will take a while.

This is important, and fairly prevalent amognst all of british societies.
Typically one identifies as their region, except to foreigners, when they either identify as british or their constituent nation, with British being quite common.

I've found that they tend to identify by borough of london. Which is even weirder. :p

For one, you want to get out of the United Kingdom, so, you can't say that you want to get rid of our monarchy, and you want to be independent. YOu mean to tell me that, after centuries of oppression by the evil English, you want to oppress them by forcing them out of their monarchy, whilst you go about being an independent nation. Therefore, put up with our Monarchy, and speak from that angle, else whine about your Welsh independence elsewhere.

Maybe. The Crown Estate is complicated.

Okay, we'll agree with a "maybe" for that.

Pesda wrote:And do you really think that tourists come to North Wales to see the queen?

No. But then, North Wales gets like 9 tourists a year, so it doesn't really matter why they go there.

No, that's very wrong. North Wales gets a lot of climbers and walkers. Try it one day, there are wonderful views.

Skepticism is good. But if you want to ignore the numbers I've taken the time to source, you're realistically going to have to do more than just shake your head and say 'nuh uh!'.

Okay fair enough. I don't believe in 'nuh uh.' But who is this Brand Finance, and why are they a trustworthy source?

Why are you talking about Wales? It doesn't matter about what you call yourself. I call myself Scotch-Irish-American. But just because I live don't live in a constitutional Monarchy, I still think it matters. Like preserving Tutankhamen. Or recognizing Native American tribes.

Even including those calling themselves "Welsh and British," the number of British people is very low. I'll look at the numbers now.
