Yes, because they're just landowners with pretensions to titles. That, and an excuse to attract wealthy American tourists on the basis of "We're returning to our ancestral home of clan X".

Seriously, an American couple asked me on a Glasgow street the way to the lands of Clan Douglas...

The Welsh people are united by common descent, history, culture, and just under 20% share the Welsh language. We inhabit a particular territory. Says nothing about a sovereign state.
Now I could argue that it excludes me from being British, because I could have little of the above in common with the rest of the British people, but I'm not going to cause I don't mind Britishness.

Since you have been attached to us so long that we share the same history for quite a long while, and your ethnic heritage is kind of, I dunno, mixed with us, as well as most of youse speaking the same language as us here (example, the thing you just typed), does that make the Welsh and the English one nation? Why don't we just end this since we are mostly in agreement- you are Welsh, you are also a Briton.

Well I have some different descent, history, culture, and language too. Also I should point out that about half my blood is English.
But I agree, we should end this pointless off topic discussion.

I share a common history with all mankind. (Excellent video series on this on youtube is world history)
I share a common culture, the human culture, which is obviously quite distinct from animals.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

If this is too far off topic, please ignore:

In the US, we (I'm told) recognize an array of indigenous Nations (such as the Pequot or the Lakota, I think?) but they are not treated as independent States (either in the US sense or the broader sense of a State as viewed by the world).

For some, the issue of membership is sometimes intensely contentious, in come cases including a formal establishment of blood quanta.

But I believe all member of First Peoples Nations within the US are also conferred US citizenship.

I somehow imagine an insurgency of Welshmen most principally involving 450kg basket loads of leaks made airborne via catapult, and show-stopping dance numbers.

I'm all for the monarchy, they give us a sense of identity. They bring us to no harm, not to mention the fact we get holidays because of them
And we get a hell of a lot of tourist money because of queen elizabeth. It doesn't matter with birth rank. One wants to dismiss this issue!

See, this is exactly the same reason I like the Jewish people in my country.

Frankly, I kind of feel like they could become a lot more insistent on what's a holiday.

Maybe add a couple.

But the point of identity is interesting. We Americans generally choose for the Avatar of our National Identity a vacuous malnourished yet wealthy harridan of some kind, or a large fellow who can throw things well at or to other things.

I think the Monarchy should be abolished since it is unfair to other citizens that some bunch of people are living due to money of taxpayers. The royals dont have to go to work nor they dont have to wake up every morning. This is why the Royal family should be abolished.

I believe that the Monarch does actually have a function- in fact, it has a governmental function, which is why it is funded with our Tax payer money. They do, despite your claims, wake up in the morning, and they do, in fact, go about their work. The Royal family is a Symbol of the British people and our History, Culture, and Tradition, and are at the centre of the very essense of Britishness.

Hands down, monarchies have no place in the modern world.

Either democracy or dictatorship: Don't try to be both!
