I like boys (and more occasionally girls) so I can't comment exactly. I can sometimes see the appeal of people I don't personally find attractive, so I guess that's the equivalent.

Also, why is "I'm gay" not an option on the poll? Or "I'm female"?

It is not because you're straight. It is because straight females often have baffling tastes.

Example: General Petraeus, he looks like a dork and when he's not in uniform he wears his pants half way up his belly. Only a woman would want to jump that, though he can get the range of women from his floppy dog ear wife to Paula Broadwell who is good except for a huge fucking forehead.

I actually dig her forehead, makes her look intelligent(which she is).

That said. I don't understand it either. I mean what is wrong with finding another guy good looking, or *gasp* attractive?

Also: I can actually find a guy/woman good looking without finding them sexy. To me those two things are different.

Both men and women will compare their own physical beauty to others of the same gender in order to know where they stand in the competitive mating world. Therefore, yes to the poll.

For women the comparison to each other is more about being fashionable; a lot of what is considered that is inconsistent with what guys tend to prefer in gals in the first place. (And male sexual selection isn't as picky as fashion is anyway.)

In any case, calling a guy "handsome" still seems like an odd way to express that, but I suppose there isn't much of a convenient shorthand for "handsome to those of compatible sex and sexual orientation."

Your opinion =/= a reliable guide on what to project onto the vast majority of men who are attrached to women.

This is a poll of males, and for that matter it's about males who both claim to be straight and claim an opinion on the attractiveness of other males.

I don't feel I need to say "I'm not gay, but...". Girls can say "she's so pretty", so it doesn't seem different to me for a guy to say another guy is handsome... I think that, due to insecurities, most guys who compliment another guy's looks, or likes their Facebook pictures, may be seen as attracted.
Sometimes, I have found myself in a situation in which I have totally misjudged. There's always an assumption I'm gay, in my town, and on Facebook. Some guys have complimented my looks over Facebook, saying "Dude, you're absolutely stunning (: xx" from a rather handsome local guy who I know of; sounded like a very strong compliment, but I guess I decided that thinking about it just makes me self-pitying. I replied "Thanks, man :) " and it seems to have led on this guy, who, it seems was actually gay and wanting to have some sort of intimate relationship with me. I can never just comment back "Btw, I'm not gay", so I just drop hints like "Not up to much, just looking up some girls in...".

But, anyway, I feel comfortable with saying things like "You've got the looks." and "Don't worry, you look absolutely fine." around my closer guy friends, though it sometimes grosses one of them out because of his belief of my homosexuality, and his denial of his own extent of attraction to guys.

For one thing, you're straight? I remember you being not straight.

For another thing, that's a horrible horrible tactic. It does not say anything about you being straight; it could just as easily mean you're bi and/or closeted. Not only will it not deter the person, it might strengthen their feelings, since they'd see themselves as being the person to make you realize you have feelings for the same sex. You cannot underestimate how excited and wanted it can make a gay boy feel when they think they have a straight-identified boy interested in them. Basically, if you feel bad, that's a good thing, because if this person is still expressing interest in you and still seems like he expects something to happen you should explain that you're not into him like that immediately and unambiguously. It's easier that way.

To answer ur question Lancaster of Wessex, it has nothing to do with insecurities...

Unless they're good friends joking around, they shouldn't be talking aloud about other guys' looks...I for one wouldn't want my manhood questioned...its about what society thinks is acceptable or not. I think that's my answer to your question.

Don't take it personally; I for one would wager our friend in the Global American Empire is quite young - I'm not being ageist, I just have a feeling. Perhaps I'm right, perhaps I'm wrong. (And in no way am I defending any bigotry and prejudice re: "less of a man" etc.)

Regardless of your (presumably genuine) intentions it is this kind of behaviour that fosters (homophobic) bigotry. Why? Because it promotes the idea that it somehow is not ok to find other men attractive, or good looking, and that if you do you are less of a "man" than those who do not.

Oh, I was waiting for something of this nature from you. According to you, I'm biromantic, but heterosexual, after I shuffled around about how curious I was. Also, this guy was round flirting with other, better looking guys- specifically my friend. I've been played around similarly whilst it's been on the other foot, so that's why I have this very cautious, but confusingly accommodating approach. It also only became apparent the guy was gay way after nice conversations, then I didn't want to overtly state I knew or heard he was gay, so I used that tactic to give a subtle hint. I'm confused, but these days, you're forever forced to fall into a box.

True, for a point. Ultimately, I shouldn't have to worry about my dignity being embarrassed or humiliated in public by being (inappropriately) grouped in with deviate behavior (and yes, most people - even alot of those 'open-minded' fellows on the left - still believe, if you push them hard enough, that homosexuality isn't normal either biologically or for religious reasons. Succinctly, it is what it is. Even those that purport to support gay marriage or find homosexuality acceptable still don't want children who are gay - which speaks volumes in and of itself).
