Partially due to remnant homophobia, I cannot ever tell a dude what he looks like.
In addition, most of the superlatives for appearance I use are generally applied to women (as I use them).
The United Colonies of Earth exists:
to bring about the settlement of all planets not yet inhabited by a sapient species within this Galaxy and Universe by the Human Race, or all members of the species Homo sapiens;
to ensure the observation and protection of the rights of all human beings;
to defend humankind from invasion, catastrophe, fraud and violence;
to represent the interests of humankind to the other governments of the Galaxy;
to facilitate the perpetuation of the unity of human civilization and infrastructure between otherwise self-governing colonies;
and to promote technological advancement and scientific discovery for the perpetuation and expansion of the unity and empowerment of all human beings.

Well, I might say Christian Bale is handsome, or that one of my friends looks good in the shirt they're wearing, but I'm not going to seriously say "OH YEAH HIS BUTT IS SO TIGHT AND SEXY MMM!"

That's my point - I'm saying you don't have to be. I'm just puzzled over why some feel the need to put up the whole "oh so and so is decent looking...BUT I'm not gay!!" barrier when discussing another man's looks, whether to himself (in their own mind) or when talking with friends, etc. I understand why they do it, I myself just don't happen to see the need.

It's entirely possible for one man to realize that another man is good-looking without feeling any sort of sexual charge from it. However, since these matters are inherently subjective, I can't really use the term "objective" in this case.

I can acknowledge that Gerard Butler is a good looking man, it doesn't mean I'm attracted to men.
Didn't your dad/uncle/brother/friend/son ever tell you that you look good in a suit before?

Frankly I think we need to stop being so damn scared of showing affection to other males as well, we've built up this culture where its considered 'unmanly' to show any kind of emotion, not only is this stupid its also unhealthy.

You know what I do when I see a male family member that I'm close to? I shake his hand and then pull him in for a hug.
I always say that handshakes are for job interviews, and meeting your girlfriends dad, family shouldn't be afraid of showing affection.

It's a natural reaction, whether it be in jest or due to the banter that comes from saying it. I suppose it's similar to disclaiming whenever someone claims respect for something controversial "I don't like Hitler but he was a strong leader" or something like that, is done to restate the already known fact that your friend isn't a neo-nazi.

It's not their sex as much as it is their features. The reason actors/actresses are known for their attractiveness is because they have very symmetrical (typically softer) features. Hence, it may not be based on sexuality as it is features/looks. This happens to both men and women, so this whole "no homo" thing is stupid and quite immature.

Yeah I stopped kissing my father when I was about 10 because it wasn't 'manly'
But when I got nephews and my own son I made a point of kissing them even after the edge of 10, my son is 12 and my Nephews are now in their 20's but everytime I see them it is with a hug and a kiss.

Whenever anybody says "I don't like Hitler but..." a lot of people (including myself) immediately assume that he really does like Hitler. It is the same sort of effect that "Some of my best friends are black" has. "...but I'm not gay..." elicits a similar reaction sometimes.

It is not because you're straight. It is because straight females often have baffling tastes.

Example: General Petraeus, he looks like a dork and when he's not in uniform he wears his pants half way up his belly. Only a woman would want to jump that, though he can get the range of women from his floppy dog ear wife to Paula Broadwell who is good except for a huge fucking forehead.

Is there such a thing as straight male opinions on attractiveness in and of itself? What does it mean for a guy to find another guy attractive if he isn't gay or bi?

That said, the use of such disclaimers is ridiculous. If someone jumps to conclusions about what you mean that's their problem.
