The Liberal Party will win the 2013 Federal Election, and promptly do something incredibly offensive or racist and everyone will act outraged. Alternatively, they'll do something incredibly offensive or racist which will win the hearts and minds of the Australian public and they'll win in a landslide.

I'm not feeling optimistic.

my predictions are of a somewhat broader scope then days or years. decades or generations are of perhaps a much better fit. it is on this scale that things which cannot reasonably be expected to transpire in a matter of days, or any one single year, can be no major surprise to occur.

there are three converging trends. the can be summed up by their names: peek oil, global warming, and the collapse of the concept of currency as we generally imagine ourselves to be familiar with it.
you can, i hope see, why i refuse to pin them to any single year.

in any given year, until the culmination in which they converge completely to result in a population implosion, deriving from the combination of famine and disease their convergence will precipitate, each will continue to advance a pace, unless and until, reliance on the use of combustion, and the rate of population increase, is severely reduced. the latter in an impartial manor, and the former by accelerated conversion to cleaner energy and transportation technologies.

at any rate, this coming year is far too soon and short a period of time to give completion of either process a high probability of consummation. it is far easier to predict what will not happen.
it is highly unlikely, as long as economic policy continues to begin and end in economic theory, any economic theory, but especially those of the so called 'right', that anything will succeed in reversing the downward spiral of economic conditions, either in the u.s., or anywhere else. it is unlikely that the cost of fossil fuels will dramatically reduce, however artificial might be the process some claim them to be held high by.

there will be more and wider spread famines in places currently seeing themselves as less suseptable to them, then less fortunate parts of the world. likewise the pace at which new diseases and mutations of older ones appear, will continue to increase, driving being increasing climatic extremes, driven by increasing mid ocean water temperatures and atmospheric carbon and other green house gasses.

national and international currencies, will continue to stumble from one crisis to the next, in their continued downward spiral of devaluation.

the bright light of course, is that while many popular political demands will remain conflicted, popular understanding of the causes of these ongoing crisis may also continue to improve.
although that may also deepen the split between those who's heads are where they can see things from, and those who's are where they cannot.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.

"economic freedom" is "the cake"
=^^=

Nothing much will change, except new people will be born and everyone else will age a year.

I think we'll see Netanyahu re-elected (unfortunately).

John Kerry will take over from Hilary Clinton as secretary of state.

I think Avigdor Lieberman's wing-nut party (Yisrael Beiteinu), will get the most votes.(very unfortunate- and he will form a coalition with Likud). (January)

Rafael Correa will defeat the right again in Ecuador. :)

Italy: Centrists, PD will form a coalition with the Greens.(February)

Kenyan elections.(March)

Japan: DPJ will lose more seats to LDP in elections to the Diet,(June)

Iran: Possible attack on Iran. If not, there'll be plenty of sabre-rattling. I'm not sure who will win elections in August.

Germany: Centre-left SPD will form a coalition with the greens, Die Linke might also do well. (September)

Elections in Chile, the centre-left socialist party will win again, Michelle Bachelet might run again. (mid November)

I hear there will be some Socialist Alternative candidates (in the Australian Federal elections), calling for left-unity.

And they will fail. Overtly leftist groups never do very well without another reason to back them up (eg. the Greens and environmentalism).

Al Qaeda takes over Syria and begins murdering Christians. Israel and the US blame it on Russia.

The one percent, vexed at having to pay real taxes because we fell off the fiscal cliff, pay people to sign a petition to impeach Obama.

Fidel Castro dies, and not much changes.

Cloning services are vended to the rich and powerful.

A vacancy in the Supreme Court goes unfilled because the GOP think all three Republican moderates nominated by Obama are too un-teapartyish.

Greenland finds lands formerly hidden by ice upon which it can raise grapes just as it used to do. The wine arrives nicely chilled, too.

The former Seychelles become the first underwater republic.

I predict the birth of the future Queen of the Commonwealth.
Julia Gillard will lose the Australian federal election in the most humiliating defeat in Australian Federal Politics.
Gina Rinehart will make more money.
The Arab spring will continue.
Maybe a War.

Civilisation will continue its headlong charge towards oblivion, as indicated by the worship of no-hopers like the Kardashians and Hiltons (and the X Factor). The rich will get richer, the poor will get poorer. A lot of noise will be made by companies about being green and being nice to each other, all of which will simply be more marketing BS to generate cash. Wars will happen, people will die, politicians will continue to get rich off both and screw us all at the same time.

In other words, much the same as the last few years, really. :palm:

Changing circumstances sure have never led to a change in policy. Nope, never. Not ever. I have never heard of this happening.
