This makes me wonder how much efficient is the police service/system in america.. or rather if these home assault only happen in hardly accessible regions/territories.
I mean, i'm used to think in case of any crime happening you just have to call the police and those in around 10 mins will come, usually making the criminals run away as soon as the hear the police siren. (if it's not clear, i don't live in america)

Depends where you live/how busy the police are. If you live a fair way from the police station (rural area) and you're calling on a Friday night, it's understandable that they won't be there quickly.

That's somehow understandable even where i live, but seeing so much people having the need to own a firearm for selfdefence, or the first thing they think of when being about to be assaulted is readying their gun, made me think the trust for the police should be very low, or the police itself isn't very trustable in america.

They get detention, or sent to the principal's office (where they get detention, and maybe a call to the parents). If that doesn't work to stop disruption, the next step is suspension. If it STILL continues, then expulsion should be considered.

On the topic in the OP, I'm still amazed that there aren't procedures in place to help prevent something like this. One of the postal routes I sub for has a middle school, and during school hours the doors are locked (people can get out with no problem, but getting in requires someone from the office to buzz you in after they verify your identity through a security camera).

Or we could regulate guns more, so that schools don't have to double as citadels and armories.

What gun regulations could have prevented something like this? Were the firearms he had obtained legally?

I'm confused. What do prayers do for these dead kids and adults? Will God somehow bring them back to life? No, he won't. What needs to be happening right now is a serious and probing discussion on gun control laws as well as a discussion on who can own guns and who can't. This marks, at least, the fifth mass shooting in a six month period. Surely, this will spark a serious debate on gun control.

My condolences go to the victims and their families. This is definitely a horrid tragedy, but hopefully it will be used as a catalyst that launches a serious discussion on guns and gun control laws. This is an issue that can't continue to be swept under the rug.

People giving into "extra-sensitive" topics not wanting to object and step on toes is exactly how we ended passing things like the patriot act and stomping all over civil liberties. While I agree that Neo Arcad had no need to start calling people idiots, I must disagree with justifying it because it's sensitive. It's times like this when it's even more imperative to step back and make objective reasoning key.

Neo Arcad's extensive history of rule-breaking could at one time have led to a very long ban. I kept it short because he has kept out of trouble for almost a year. However. we expect players to avoid deliberately inflaming other players. It is easier to inflame players when tempers are already running high, and he has been here long enough to know that; therefore, he should have been more careful. Thus, the justification was not a blanket "this subject is sensitive, everyone go easy", but a specific "this player is backsliding and has picked a particularly bad place to do it".

As a mod, I'd happily lay out the red carpet and present flowers to players who use objective reasoning for their arguments in a sensitive topic. What I won't countenance is raising the temperature by personally abusing other players because of their position on said topic.

Not all states are like that. I know that in CT, a background check is required for firearms sales at gun shows (and I know that CT isn't the only state that does that).

I wish we had time to mourn these days. I wish we had time to reflect, and to reach out and help those physically and mentally wounded by heinous acts such as these when people need it the most. It may have been a little community in Connecticut but as far as I'm concerned they're part of our larger American family and it hurts in a very deep and sensitive way when this sort of senseless depraved violence is inflicted on the innocent and vulnerable.

I wish we all could do that, collectively, but sadly this isn't the case these days. The second this happens, one side starts to make a tragedy into a political coup, and provokes a reaction from their counterparts.

All I'm asking of everybody, for one day, can we drop the pro gun or anti gun rhetoric? Can we leave our petty pithy views at the door and simply lend our collective shoulders to each other for our tears and our arms for comfort? Not just for those who were killed, but for the living who will forever deal with the wounds of today?
