I mean, i'm used to think in case of any crime happening you just have to call the police and those in around 10 mins will come, usually making the criminals run away as soon as the hear the police siren. (if it's not clear, i don't live in america)
Depends where you live/how busy the police are. If you live a fair way from the police station (rural area) and you're calling on a Friday night, it's understandable that they won't be there quickly.
That's somehow understandable even where i live, but seeing so much people having the need to own a firearm for selfdefence, or the first thing they think of when being about to be assaulted is readying their gun, made me think the trust for the police should be very low, or the police itself isn't very trustable in america.
