I like them, they are very good live. Origin of symmetry was an especially good album.

Chicks like the Backstreet Boys and guys obviously don't. So there is my point. I didn't really care, I was just wondering. It wouldn't stop me from liking them if most other guys didn't. Kinda like My Chemical Romance. It's mainly chicks and emos that like them, but I like them anyway because I realize that they are a kick-ass hardcore punk band that have great outlooks of the world.

You don't need to worry about Muse being a 'chicks band', I've seen them live a few times, and it was a pretty even mix of males & females.

Unfortunately, their latest album... its not quite the same. For those who've followed them from the start, its a bit of a disappointment - it seems like they'd rather show off than actually make good music.

Their latest album has been their most successful, so if they are showing off, it's working.

Maybe their musical taste changed? Few bands have remained popular singing the same shit over and over and over and over and over and over. See it's even boring reading the same thing over and over again. Imagine listening to it.

If they weren't before, they are closer to that point now for the very reason you specified: Twilight. While their concert attendance is, from other testimony here, fairly evenly split on gender lines, I've little doubt Twilight is predominately experienced by females. Throw Muse into that movie, and you're going to be increasing the rate of acquisition of girl fans to a greater level than the acquisition of male fans (who will normally only learn of them via radio, or perhaps another friend).

If you're really worried about listening to a band where too many of the fans might be chicks, just listen to British experimental progressive rock of the sixties.

Quite. Crack on a bit of the old Genesis and the only people left standing in the same room are male teenagers with Aspergers.

Well their style has changed significantly over the years, and I've liked all the previous changes, this one just seems a step too far - butmore than that, the songs just seem to be of a lower quality - the kind of tracks that would only have been B-sides before. They seem to have made the mistakes of other world-famous rock bands of the past (Guns 'n Roses spring to mind) by moving away from guitar-based music by introducing orchestras - it works for the occasional overblown ballad, but not for an entire album. I've no problem with the new album being successful (I bought it anyway), and I wish Muse well... but I don't think I'll be following them so closely in the future.

I noticed their breathing a few years ago, Yootopia. For a whole album it was ALL I COULD HEAR. And then I got over it.

I like the majority of the first 3 albums, and I like a few tracks on black holes and revelations. This new album feels like there's a whole 'layer' missing from it. Their sound is so much less 'big' than it was even an album ago, it sounds kinda hollow. I'm not impressed.

Muse aren't a 'chick band' anymore than Radiohead are. Muse are a slightly less ugly version of Radiohead, after all.

Muse are radiohead if Thom Yorke rode a pink unicorn on stage playing a guitar made out of glitter and wearing 7 inch platform boots with matching leotard, before playing a piano using only pelvic thrusts to hit the keys.

So... slightly less ugly?

Admittedly, when you're starting with Thom Yorke, there's a lot of 'less ugly' to cover.

They're pretty popular on KROQ in LA. "Starlight" and "Knights of Cydonia" made the top 106.7 lists in three consecutive years (2006-2008), which IIRC is unprecedented for any one song, let alone two.

I think they're fairly listenable. It's also interesting that front-man Matthew Bellamy is the son of George Bellamy of the 60's band the Tornados ("Telstar"). Some of "Knights" sounds like it was influenced by "Telstar."

Yet to listen to them properly, though am going to have to soon as they are headlining the BDO this year.

The new Muse album sounds like someone trying to do a parody of Muse. United States of Eurasia is ridiculous.

Still, 'Undisclosed Desires' is alright.

I like their ballads and their piano-based pieces. Being featured on a Twilight soundtrack makes them lose some respect points, but I understand that they haven't been selling much records.

Haven't or hadn't? If its the latter, they were doing extremely well before Twilight. They probably agreed to that more out of a desire to reach more people rather than because they had a pressing need of money (and hopefully not because they liked the books :P ). If its the former, then I think someone already said their latest album was the best selling one of the lot...

My boyfriend likes Muse so, no, you're not the only male out there who likes them. And come on, Twilight OS?, that should've told you, from the get-go what kind of people were going to comment on it.

Time is Running Out is my favorite of their songs. I love it. The bass and drums make it much heavier than their normal songs. I haven't stopped listening to it for 3 weeks.
