Hmm. Wasn't those rights yielded by the 14th amendment? I guess it is working as you desired. ;)

So how exactly are the feds controlling your life?

How does the 14th amendment apply to this? Equal rights under the law? Ensuring due process? Immigration? The public debt?

The federal government actually has done a good job of controlling individuals lives by actively interfering in the economy, regulating markets, imposing a progressive tax system that now charges tax rates well above anything justifiable, social programs, etc.

Maybe if he wasn't a dumbass and almost started world war three, when America had nukes in Turkey, I wouldn't have a "blood-feud " for him.

If I recall correctly Khrushchev was testing Kennedy to see how he would react to such a situation and if he would back down. When it looked like the US Navy was going to attack the Russian ships he called them back when he realised that Kennedy wasn't going to back down. In a way it was Khrushchev's fault in the first place.

C'mon, KJI, you have been here long enough to know that the motto of NSG, if they had a motto, would be "Whenever anything happens it is always a safe bet to Blame the US because you will always get at least 51%* of the posters to go Yeah! Its the US's fault" :p

The statistic of "51%" is scientifically unproven and is used as an exaggerated illustration of the propensities of many posters to adapt a knee-jerk anti-US policy on everything.

McClellan, Burnside, and Hooker. If any of them had been the least bit good at their job, the Civil War would have taken half the time it did.

In his defense, Hooker was actually a very good Corps commander. That was the limit of his abilities however. McClellan and Burnside, there's simply no excuse for the incompetence of those two.

You know that the highest tax bracket is a fraction of what it was before 1980 right? In the 50s and 60s it was 90%, dropping to 70% by 1981. Then it dropped to 30%. Currently the highest tax bracket is 35% and rich people are freaking out that it might be raised to... brace yourselves....36%!!!

Personally, I say kick it back to 70% and go from there.

How about the 50,456,002 US citizens who voted for Bush, and the 50,999,897 who rolled over and took it after their democracy was blatantly defiled? Civil action and American democracy failed, not Gore. (I understand that of the 48.38% of the electorate to vote for Gore not all were complacent, although I couldn't find any statistics on how many participated in demonstrations or civil disobedience in response to the 2000 election travesty.)

President bashing...

Postby Snrubenahs » Mon Oct 19, 2009 10:33 am

Okay. I notice a lot (and I mean A LOT) of "president bashing" here. Aside from the excessive political bent of this, I feel this is sadly misplaced. While the verbal foibles of Clinton/Bush crack me up, do not mistake my sense of humor for a lack of respect for their intellect. Bush and Gore both receved decent grades in college, and the remarks about Kennedy are really more about his character and political agenda than his intellect. The crack about J.Q. Adams is the same. He just had more ambition than popularity; he was really very intelligent. As for Obama: while I disagree with many (actually most) of his policies, I recognize that he is a shrewd political organizer. To insult Reagan or Carter is to insult a mixed bag...they both played all sides of the poltical coin and cannot be defined by a particular dogma. Neither of them is really stupid, although they made mistakes.

Even the Benedict Arnold comment is looking backward (hindsight is 20/20).

There are a lot of stupid Americans (and smart ones too). But if you want a stupid one who also managed to attain the pinnacle of infamy for it, I give you Aaron Burr. The theories given to explain his behavior abound, but we know that he was incredibly deluded as to the means to acieve his success. The only thing he had to counter his lack of forethought was a healthy overdose of charisma.
