Keep Santa, he's not Christian any more. Have gifts and songs and sales blitzes and strong drink and the whole shebang.

Then move the celebration of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth- a date no one can establish with certainty anyway- to mid August, when nothing else is going on. No school parties, no big sales events, just some candles and songs and prayers.

It would be wonderful.

how is santa not christan anymore, did the immagrents take his job too?

Long ago there was a saint named Nicholas. He was associated with Christmas. But then he was turned into "Santa" and the true meaning of the holiday he was employed to promote was not devotion or spirituality but commercialism, you know, the "spirit of giving."

Bland songs such as "Happy Holidays" were meant to inoffensively replace the annoyingly religious carols.

Nativity scenes cannot be placed by the county court house, you know that. But Santa? Sure, fine, he's nothing.

Salvation Army dresses as Santa for a reason. Its insidious, but there it is.

That, along with the entire Christmas Kettle program is what they use for funding their winter shelters. I don't class that as insidious, personally.

Not the Salvation Army doing good part. The dressing as Santa part.

Santa Claus is only partially based on Saint Nicholas.

Oh, please don't. If you do we'll have everyone screaming about Yule and trees and logs and those fucking thieving Christians. Or at least wait until, like, the Ides of December. That'll be close enough to the Saturnalia that I won't care. Much.

My version of the Xmas story has an eight-legged horse, two fire gods, and the re-animated son of a goddess of fertility. But nooooo, everyone just wants "It's A Wonderful Life" reruns...

Slepnir and Odin versus Rudolph and Santa. We'll leave Gungnir out of it.

So could I. Don't have a decent Indian place near me. Downtown, maybe but parking is a pain and expensive.

I think I have a box of Samoas hidden away somewhere.
