I suggest that without retail sales during the holiday season, we'll be struggling a lot more. See, people buying things, for whatever reason, puts money into the economy and creates demand. Demand ultimately creates jobs. People with jobs buy things. Denying businesses the holidays is a good way to stagnate the economy.

True. A friend of mine recently moved to Somerville from North Carolina, and when he was looking for apartments he commented, "Oh, there's a Planned Parenthood like two blocks from this place." I was confused as to why this even merited comment (there's actually a second PP within walking distance), and then he explained, "Well, my parents would be a little freaked out to know I was so close to one of those." And I reassured him that when his parents come visit and notice that he lives 3 blocks from a famous lesbian coffeehouse they'll forget all about the abortion factory down the street.

These are the things you get used to when living in the heart of the secular wasteland that is New England.
