Because it's subconciously accepted as the truth.

I suggest that without retail sales during the holiday season, we'll be struggling a lot more. See, people buying things, for whatever reason, puts money into the economy and creates demand. Demand ultimately creates jobs. People with jobs buy things. Denying businesses the holidays is a good way to stagnate the economy.
just because people arnt buying hundreds of dolors worth of stuff in those few weeks doesnt mean that money will never enter the economy, the money is still there

Nothing unchristian about attacking an argument. Nice try, though.![]()
And your assumption was still manichean, unfounded, and silly.

I start saying "Happy Holidays" shortly before Thanksgiving, and continue saying it until after New Years. Even for "traditional" American Christians, this means that it encompasses three holidays they observe (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years). I've never understood why some people find this plural so offensive.

Because they're a bunch of communists who want the government to tell businesses how they can greet their customers even if it cuts into their profit margin by offending them.

The Free Market has, in its infinite wisdom, come down on the side of Happy Holidays. Perhaps Christ should consider offering a superior product if he wishes to be able to compete.

Well, you see, if it's "free market" then they're just going to exercise THEIR free market choices to not shop at those stores. Boycots are part of the free market.

I really wish they would. There's a great little sandwich shop near my place that has HAPPY HOLIDAYS printed on the front window, and the lines are always outrageous. I really wish more people would get offended enough to stop shopping there, so I don't have to wait 20 minutes for my meatball sub.

If you're still where I think you are, I think I know that shop.
Agreed, their meatballs are fantastic.
That said, the places where you and I live aren't exactly teaming with the "say merry christmas or else!" crowd.

The non-Christians can just get over it, they live in a majorly Christian country, they should expect religion to affect their everyday lives.
Besides, it's not like anyone celebrates Christmas as a religious holiday anymore... they just want free stuff.
