I suggest that without retail sales during the holiday season, we'll be struggling a lot more. See, people buying things, for whatever reason, puts money into the economy and creates demand. Demand ultimately creates jobs. People with jobs buy things. Denying businesses the holidays is a good way to stagnate the economy.

just because people arnt buying hundreds of dolors worth of stuff in those few weeks doesnt mean that money will never enter the economy, the money is still there

Oh wait, no, I don't think I can read all of this thread if this is what I am in for. No Ibwa, the money is not "still there," the money needs to change hands for the economy to function. But wait, this is not about the economy, it's about the War on Christmas.
I would say that since many modern Christmas traditions are all based upon pagan belief systems, (other than the buybuybuy spendurmoney NOW) maybe back off a bit, eh?

I don't need to feel better.

In fact, the most reasonable explanation for this beyond the argument discussion is that you lack an appropriate response to the first. I'd argue that you don't care but that makes this discussion strange, so...

Nothing unchristian about attacking an argument. Nice try, though.

I start saying "Happy Holidays" shortly before Thanksgiving, and continue saying it until after New Years. Even for "traditional" American Christians, this means that it encompasses three holidays they observe (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years). I've never understood why some people find this plural so offensive.

Because they're a bunch of communists who want the government to tell businesses how they can greet their customers even if it cuts into their profit margin by offending them.

The Free Market has, in its infinite wisdom, come down on the side of Happy Holidays. Perhaps Christ should consider offering a superior product if he wishes to be able to compete.

Well, you see, if it's "free market" then they're just going to exercise THEIR free market choices to not shop at those stores. Boycots are part of the free market.

Except, you know....when you're boycotting Chick-fil-a, then you're just whiny fags.

I really wish they would. There's a great little sandwich shop near my place that has HAPPY HOLIDAYS printed on the front window, and the lines are always outrageous. I really wish more people would get offended enough to stop shopping there, so I don't have to wait 20 minutes for my meatball sub.

If you're still where I think you are, I think I know that shop.

Agreed, their meatballs are fantastic.

That said, the places where you and I live aren't exactly teaming with the "say merry christmas or else!" crowd.

Why do these people want to destroy America's indetity?

The non-Christians can just get over it, they live in a majorly Christian country, they should expect religion to affect their everyday lives.

Besides, it's not like anyone celebrates Christmas as a religious holiday anymore... they just want free stuff.

True. A friend of mine recently moved to Somerville from North Carolina, and when he was looking for apartments he commented, "Oh, there's a Planned Parenthood like two blocks from this place." I was confused as to why this even merited comment (there's actually a second PP within walking distance), and then he explained, "Well, my parents would be a little freaked out to know I was so close to one of those." And I reassured him that when his parents come visit and notice that he lives 3 blocks from a famous lesbian coffeehouse they'll forget all about the abortion factory down the street.

These are the things you get used to when living in the heart of the secular wasteland that is New England.

What if we lived in a majorly Islamic country? You'd be pretty pissed about Islam in government, wouldn't you. Then, Mohammad Orili would get up on his talk show and spout nonsense about the "War on Ramadan.

Jesus got angry at a fig tree for not giving him figs when it was not in season, and cursed it by never letting it grow figs again.

That's not really socialistic.
