Holiday means 'holy day.'

By saying Happy Holiday, you are basically calling New Year's Eve and Christmas a holy day.

Let's be nice and just say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's!

Holiday means more than "holy day"..... though that is the etymological roots of the present term. In present usage it can refer to a special religious day (holy day), merely a day one is exempted from work (national holiday), or in terms of British usage it can refer the place you are going to while off (vacation).
Such heroic nonsense!

Honestly, this Christmas Vs. Holidays stuff is making me want to flip a table at least three times. It is a Christmas tree, and it should be called by its name. I know there're different religions. Honestly, I'm not religious at all and I still celebrate Christmas. How about all those people who feel their beliefs aren't being respected stop and think about how hypocritical their solution, pretending one holiday doesn't exist, is, and learn that nobody would give a flying fuck if it was called "SuperRainbowMagicalUnicorn Day" and a rainbow-colored unicorn wearing a cape flew around giving them presents as long as everyone was treated equally.

On the other hand, Christmas stuff can GTFB to being a December holiday. It's enough having to suffer the music for 24+ days. Call me what you want, I'd listen to ANYTHING besides Christmas music. And modern Pop. Hearing wannabe singers sing songs with simple chord/melody patterns and meaningless lyrics is painful.

I will never know How there is so much argument over the definition of holiday...

A holiday is a day of celebration. It can also be a holy day, but it isn't always. Christmas is a holiday, and is a holy day. I would consider my birthday to be a holiday, but it's not holy. Thanksgiving is a holiday, but it isn't a holiday.

Also, the war on Christmas is not a real thing.

"Xmas", "Season Greetings", "Happy Holidays" are all remnants of a failed attempt to impose politically correct BS on the majority.

Every year sees more frivolous attacks on Christmas, but their hate cannot match our love for it and we will prevail.

Would now be a bad time to mention I was serious about the Super-Rainbow-Magical-Unicorn? Because that would actually be pretty cool.

Sorry. I do get into this argument, since it's something that really angers me.

He's convinced me to start calling it a holiday tree.... not because I'm offended by Christmas.... I like Christmas.... but more to piss him the fuck off since he seems to getting sand in his nether regions over what others decide to call their decorations.... I'll consider it part of my mention in spreading holiday joy.

Read the thread. At least read the responses to your posts. Using "X" to mean "Christ" is a thousand years old, and comes from the Greek word for Christ (which starts XP (chi-rho) if it is written capitalised). Unless you claim that Constantine I was conducting a "war on Christians" when he converted to Christianity and stuck that symbol on top of his military standards.

It really does irritate me, since only the one holiday known as Christmas uses that type of tree for their celebrations. and as such, can be called a "Christmas Tree".

That was me in rant mode, which unfortunately was left on by accident and resulted in Modly actions.

Name one attack on Christmas. It has to be a real attack. Saying happy holidays is NOT an attack on Christmas.

No, more of a play on words, The Xmas song Joy to the World, then the rock sock by three dog night "Joy to the World" which has the opening line "Jeremiah was a bullfrog".... and as such you could put up Jeremiah and play "Joy to the World"

The English word for it is Christmas. Have you ever seen JC referred to as Jesus X in English?

In the American context, the X was most famously used by Malcolm Little to cross out his slave name - the same way Xmas is crossing out Christ out of the holiday.

Question, do you bitch and moan every time you see something written in another language for expediency's sake? I mean, if I put QED, does that really put your garters into a tailspin? Ergo? Et Cetera? Let me know when the Latin gets offensive. I'm taking notes.
