Right, time for a bullshit stomping session.
I grew up in Leicester. Yes, Leicester, and in one of the more culturally diverse areas of that city at that. I'd say that makes me about as qualified as anybody to speak about the effects of demographic shifts of this type as anybody else.
So, these effects. There are basically none. Literally, nothing. The sole impacts were:
1) Really good takeaways. Seriously, properly good.
2) Really cheap fireworks/alcohol/everything if you went shopping right after Diwali (that is: immediately before bonfire night, a fair chunk of the time).
That's about it. No rampant hordes of white people without jobs on the streets, no "cultural and ethical takeover" (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean), no takeover of the city, no genocide. Nothing at all, in fact.
As an addition to 1), having just moved to Manchester, I have found myself living right next to shops that sell various Indian sweets.
This one feature of one tiny import from a small proportion of immigrants vastly outweighs any opposition anyone could ever have to immigration.
Vastly.
but if u said that a Chippy was like a foreign take-away and that tiny import was common what would u say???
