My idea actually comes from Cuba; you could either perform two years of military service in the Armed Forces, learning basic military stuff OR two years of alternative national service like picking crops or doing some other type of manual labor. This would actually also help to solve the problem of illegal immigration as well; as people participating in their national service would be doing the jobs that uneducated illegal aliens would normally do, the likelihood of illegal aliens getting a job would be much lower. No job, no food. Seems like a good idea eh?
People who are not physically or mentally capable would be excluded, as would those with promising athletic, academic or artistic futures/exploits.
I believe that universal mandatory would be good for all Americans. Right now we've got too many left-wingers spouting bullshit about our troops without any due respect. With two years of compulsory national service, maybe those brats would finally learn to respect the people who risk their lives for them every day. It would also teach people how to honor their elders and the troops, and generally become respected members of the community.
So, opinions?

This country wasn't built on immigration

I know, and you're incorrect. It's a known fact that even the relatively fewer German immigrants were responsible for bringing in a large flow of capital which funded rapid expansion.
Son, you're going to lose.

Last I checked, the country was still dominated by people not native to the land on which the country was founded.

Wait, are you trying to prove it WAS or it WASN'T built on immigration?
Son, you're going to lose.
This should be interesting ...

Of course i would've pressed the button up until he seemed hurt or screamed for help but only because he signed up for the experiment.
Though obviously at that point in the show i realised it was just a psych experiment so i'd probably just settle for one smash against the table for being slightly evil.
But i'd hope most people would at least not press the button at the higher voltages.
You see, that's the thing about psychology: you think you know what you'd do in a situation, but your mind does something completely different. I'm sure that if you asked the majority of those people if they'd deliver potentially fatal electric shocks to someone (just like them) for answering test questions wrong, they'd say no. Introduce various circumstances and actually put them in such a situation, and they act differently.
Doctor Solomon Asch's experiment on social conformity also is a great example of this.
