They are the lesser of two evils. Think of it as that nationalist Irish party that has the funny name and Martin McGuinness as one of it's members and the Real IRA.

You know which one you'd rather deal with. Israel would rather deal with Abbas than whatever that crazy bearded man runs Gaza.
Well I don't like the ruling coalition in Israel, Hamas, or Fatah. But no truly secular party in Israel has been elected yet, pretty sure both sides see it as a holy war so refuse to compromise.

Yeah, that's what won Hamas the election. They were the only group actually providing social welfare programs. IDK though, winning voters through soup kitchens and blankets isn't a foreign concept to the Middle East.

When it comes down to it, Fatah would have to somehow convince the Palestinian people that they can secure their rights and freedoms through peaceful, democratic means, as opposed to Hamas's militant approach. Israel isn't really helping them out on that front.

I remember my Israeli hosts being absolutely CERTAIN it would be much easier to come to an understanding with Hamas.
You'll notice the great success of that strategy.

It's going to be a reet joke to provide Fatah with goods to dispense. Problem is that the Israelis are absolutely certain that Fatah is just a bunch of Cleptocrats. ( I don't agree btw)

It is something both Israelis and Palestinians believe. It is part of the reason Hamas won an election.

It may well be true. And obvious to us outside of the Palestinian population. I suspect for the Palestinians the size of the evils is sometimes inverted. Because of the "Israel would rather deal with..." They are stuck with a group they perceived as corrupt, inefficient and in bed with Israel, and a militant group that says its fighting for them. Sometimes bombs fall on them from the people that want to deal with Abbas and the militant group says "uh huh, what did we tell you?"

They need better PR.

Put it this way: Likud plays Israelis right into their hands. They know Israelis are fed up with the government and increasing costs of living whilst living on rather inadequate wages (leading some to want to move into the settlements simply because they are cheaper than living in Israel proper) as well as other social injustices. They also hate Iran and their Arab neighbours and as long as Bibi keeps railing about the Iranians, the longer he stays in power.

Transhuman Proteus wrote:It may well be true.

May? How many rockets have been launched from the West Bank since 2008?

They need better PR.

They need better leaders. Hamas has done absolutely nothing for the Palestinian cause since they came to power. Each rocket that is launched is another brick in the wall.

It certainly seems you have a certain capacity for being awfully concerned about protecting the image of a certain HAMAS which, we may note, has been classified
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas
the United States[8], the European Union,[9][10], Canada and Japan classify Hamas as a terrorist organization

It is a matter of grave concern that individuals residing within the European Union and who publicly side with Hamas cannot be sentenced to life-imprisonment which would be the just reward for so heinous a crime as siding with Hamas.

Clearly, we urgently require a strong version of the Patriot Act for Europe.

Hamas is the sole democratically elected government of Palestine.

Saying Fatah should rule is like saying the Mitt Romney should become the President of America, despite the fact that Obama won the election.

Iran hasn't and won't do a thing. I'm more concerned about Hamas becoming suicidal if the IDF invades.

pretty much. also hoping it doesn't end up increasing the number of half-decent rockets. something like that.

Rocket hits Tel Aviv area; 3 Israelis wounded in volley on South
IDF: Projectile on Tel Aviv did not hit ground; more than 275 rockets from Gaza explode in Israel since beginning of operation; IDF strikes over 250 Gaza targets;

I'm hoping the quantity decreases too. This'll let Iron Dome hit a higher percentage of rockets.
