So what determines what the place for a conversation/discussion thread is? I don't see anything in the rules that mandate that this is not the place for it.

This is a debate forum? Where does it say that? In order for me to "debate" anyone, I must have a point and they must have a point which they are trying to logically prove. This doesn't seem to fall into that category.

Pay more attention to what the mods have to say when they lock threads then. Chat threads apart from TET get locked.
