Perhaps. But this is irrelevent because I could just as easily say that in such a hypothetical world the US has a higher population than China. As I've said many times, I'm a realist and thus prefer to focus on the world as it actually is.

Then why can you not understand that Canada neither benefits from joining the United States nor do they achieve anything other then becoming a colony to a larger nation.

Because unity is such a nice word. It just rolls off the tongue perfectly, so, we would like to say that everyone is united! imagine the United States of Americas!

Oh and I am against unification, that just seems to be the only reason people have for wanting unity though, oh and because at the end of Disney movies everyone is always united as well.

I'm trying to gauge whether this is a consistent belief, or whether you are just trying to legitimise a blatant act of imperialism.

Ok fine. I'll play ball.

Yes, if that was the case, it would be justified. But it isn't because in RL America is the greatest nation on Earth.

So, in other words, America is so awesome and fantastic that your interpretation of utilitarianism would only ever apply to other countries being absorbed by the United States. Got it.

Nice try, though.

GDP means nothing to the average citizen? Are you serious?

If instead of 15 Trillion, the USA had a GDP of 5 dollars do you really think that wouldn't have any impact on the lives of Americans?

It's because it's so easy to be right here. The OP is so inexorably wrong, making a counter-argument takes a matter of seconds, and you can still feel really smart afterwards.

No, GDP means nothing. Average wages, standards of living, cost of living. Even GDP per capita is a better measurement.

Don't forget the moon base. Though given the United States accounts for more than 40% of the world's military expenditures by itself, if you can't afford a moon base on that, maybe you should just call it quits.
