To be honest I also have problems understanding Christsanity some times but to be the main thing is that you follow the morals and understand that god gave up on the big brother system so to speak after the OT so don't expect your religion to make your life easy but really anything but.

It ain't those parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand.

"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."—former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman

Your faith is truly up to you, I like mine because it's morals are similar to mine and tolerant of others rather than hating any one who isn't a member of our religion, anyone of any faith can get into our afterlife even if they don't follow our principles, and there are very few restrictions on what you can and can't do. People find a faith that suits them so maybe Christianity isn't right for you try something else until you get it right.

As a non-practicing Catholic and outright 18-year-old Agnostic...all I can say is...
...

You cannot prove or disprove that a God exists. That's what blind faith is based on weather it comforts or anguishes you. Either way, I doubt what we'll tell you will better the empty-handed works of countless theologists, scientists, and philosophers that haven't given conclusions in millenniums. Your moments of doubt are a part of life. Your moments of faith too. And only you can decide what to believe in.

Hey there guy.
I'm irreligious, pretty much because science has always been more interesting to me. Here's my take:
Look, a God is impossible to prove, and equally impossible to disprove. So, basically, who cares? Why do we even bother talking about it? Whether or not there's someone watching you shouldn't affect the way you live your life, and you shouldn't be a good person just because you expect to get some reward in a hypothetical afterlife! I'm not saying, "do not believe in heaven/hell." I'm saying that if you demand payment for your kindness, you were never a very kind person to begin with. The only thing you should want to receive is the knowledge that you've made someone's life better, even if only by an infinitesimally small amount.
You shouldn't bank your entire life on whether or not there is a God or an afterlife, because then if you're wrong, it would be such a let down! You're perfectly allowed to believe in and hypothesize about either. Then, when you eventually die, you'll have one more thing to look forward to - the answer to a question that has plagued humankind for thousands of years. What could be more satisfying than that?

The real trick is providing evidence for the existence of a God and if you can't do that, then the burden of proof is not on athiests to prove there is not one and they can go on assuming that there is not one in the same way you can conclude that there are no fairies based on the same lack of evidence.

You may say to yourself "but what is the harm in believing? Either there is a god or there is not right? So that means I have a 50/50 chance of there being a god or not and I have nothing to lose when I die if I did believe." This is known as Pascals' Wager, and it sounds great until you factor in that each religion states that if you do not believe it, God won't forgive you and will send you to hell anyway, so that means that when you seperate all the monotheiestic religions and thier sects, the 50/50 argument becomes extremely slim since there can only be one god and thus, one religion. Even if you believe in the right religion, you could have the wrong sect and go to hell anyway. The chances are not very good no matter what.

This is incorrect: there are radical divergences from the Abrahamic concept of hell in Hinduism and Buddhism under the connotations and principles of dharma, amongst other refutations of this assertion.

I really wish I could help you, but I lost my own faith about a year ago.

Losing your faith isn't a particularly enjoyable experience, although in the end it's worth it... you find yourself no longer suffering from cognitive dissonance, able to think rationally (with more ease) and able to enjoy life on life's own terms. Atheism isn't that bad.

The only advice I can offer is this:

I don't claim there is no god, and that there is no higher power.

In fact I think there may well be a higher power of some sort, something more wonderful than anything human imagination has dreamed of.

What I do claim is that specific gods; Yahweh, Allah, Zeus, Krishna and all their friends don't exist.

So if you're looking for proof either way you won't find it.

Plus the possibility that god only admits atheists to heaven and sends theists and all others to hell. Or other possibilities from the infinity of possibilities. You can't say he doesn't do so; he works in mysterious ways, after all ;)

Yes, but he said he was a Baptist, so I offered the best statement I could based on that. If Hinduism and Buddhism really don't offer damnation for lack of faith in them, then it would be better. The chances of one of those two being correct out of the thousands of religions are still very slim.

Never be afraid to critically question and second-guess everything and anything that involves 'metaphysical' claims that are unfalsifiable and unsubstantiated beyond anecdotal 'evidence' (that practically every religion claims). Even if it means dropping religion all together and having no affiliation/becoming irreligious, and even if it means not believing in an invisible best friend in the sky and no heaven.

Nowhere (Outside of religious texts and preachers and etc I guess) does it say you need to be part of a religion in the first place.

This is probably the best place to go if you want to lose your faith. NSG in my experience is made up of LOTS of atheists, most of whom know EXACTLY what they're talking about.

As for proof, there is none. That's the point of it being FAITH

Of course, fair enough. Nonetheless, religious faith is a personal choice due to the irrationality of divinity's existence.
