In my personal opinion, this election proves that the Republican Party has to change if they want to be seen as a viable option. This election was the last one that could be won by the "traditional white man". Blacks, Latinos, and Women are becoming more prominent in the election process and the republican party will need to adapt. They can no longer be seen as a political party that is closed off to women, gays, people of color, and those who are not christian. America has substituted some of their morals for liberties, and if the Republican Party is not willing to change, the voters will not stay Red. I think a commentator on Good Morning America said it best: " The Republican Party is a 'Mad Men' party in a 'Modern Family' America."

No but the Republicans will need to become a party more focused on the economy, and less interested when it comes to social-issues (if not more open). Because currently, it is not necessarily their viewpoints that are causing them to seem unappealing, but the way they express them. And the nation is getting more diverse faster than the Republican Party is becoming more diverse. Though they are gaining Latino support, women/blacks are not seen as huge standouts there, as the Democratic Party almost seems as it's 'Diversity Party USA'.
