So,after all this World War 3 threads how about we get a Balkan War one? For the ones who do not know

the first and second Balkan wars took place during 1912/1913 with Greece,Serbia,Bulgaria,Montenergo VS The Ottoman Empire in order to liberate their areas.The second balkan war took place shortly after the 1st one when Bulgaria felt mistreated cause Greece and Serbia had Macedonia/Thracian areas Bulgaria had a claim in,the Greeks and Serbians counter attacked while Romania and O.E attakced Bulgaria,resulting in Bulgaria loosing most of the territory it gained in previous wars.

Now I do not believe a Balkan War is something that will happen in the near future but I believe it is highly possibly consindering the rise of nationalism in recent years and the fact that every nation in the Balkans has a 'Greater Nation' idea and that the borders are fkd up.I do not know what would trigger the war but if one war starts it will spread like dominno.

What is your thougt?Will it ever happen? When? What will the sides be?

As you said the Borders that were redrawn of the NATO led collapse of Yugoslavia have led to resentment on all sides, as have the show trials at the ICTY.
There will be a conflict as it is occurring at a low intensity already.

I highly doubt it would happen on the scale in the 1990s. Fistly because Croatia is in the EU, and secondly Serbian politicans more and more accept Kosovo not being apart of Serbia. That being said, there is growing nationalism and ultra-nationalism that could turn militant quickly.

This isnt just about the slavs,Greek minority in South Albania,Huge waves of albanian immigrants in greece 15 years ago,Albanian population in eastern FYROM,FYROM caliming rest of the macedonian area,Bulgaria claiming FYROM is Bulgaria,Kosovo dispute and more.This will turn out badly

Yugoslavia and Albania took part in the 1991-1999 wars. Basically, it's a matter of arbitrary definitions.

Hate between nations? Nations don't have a mind. People do. Now prove your claim for the majority of the citizens of every Balkanic country.
As for fucked-up borders, as you say, there are ways other than wars to redesign them. Although, once two countries get in the EU and join the Schengen Agreement, borders become sort of a trivial issue.

I personally think that if the current economic crisis can be solved, the EU will emerge stronger.

Nothing is forever. A lot of things, though, are for a fair amount of time.

That's entirely the aim of the EU, and was the aim of the EEC before that, and was the aim even of the ECSC/CECA.

The whole purpose of war is (ultimately) making money - although the Powers that Be like to exploit nationalism to have people EAGER to get killed "for their countries" (which means for the Powers' pockets, of course).
Still, trade between countries gives a lot of money, too.
As long as there is more money to be gained through trade than through war, war won't happen.
That's why most of the EU is about creating a common Europe-wide market. So that people will prefer peace, which allows trade to happen.

In a roleplaying game, I once got Albania. I drove the Soviets, Italians, Greeks and Yugoslavians up the wall. The Bulgarians were kind of our allies since they did not trust the Soviets. We also tried allying with China. At one point, the Soviets were even saying they were going to invade us since I signed a treaty leasing them a naval base in return for money and weapons. But in time I threw them out of Albania since they supported the Greeks or Yugoslavians against us. Something like that.

I then tried playing the China, US and UK. card to counteract the Soviets. I had the entire nation mobilized for war. Since the game never reached a conclusion it is not known what would happened.

I live in Croatia, so I know the situation in Balkans. Croatia surely won't get into any wars because we have very peaceful policies in recent years and we're to become an EU nation. But, situation in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina is still tense and unpredictable, so who knows what will happen.
