For one, don't bother asking us on NSG, because most of us know jack squat about programming. ;) Secondly, get a blog, and thirdly, do your OWN homework. That way, you can be assured that you won't fail, or if you do fail, you only have yourself to blame.

:palm:
It's not homework, im doing it because my school never ever entered this competition before, and I want to be the first.
Also
Wanst' asking for help to do it, i was asking for an idea for a project. Nov.8 is just the deadline for submissions

Asking us to help you with you with coming up with ideas is pretty much asking us to help you with your homework, if not worse.

If we were to give you an idea, it wouldn't be your own. In the scientific community, that would be condemned.

Well, find an idea. We may be smart, but it is like asking for help for a Heritage Fair from Grade 6 to 8 at a school in the Dominion of Canada: even if it is the first time it has been done, it is still homework.

But it cant be homework if it's not school mandated.....

Schoolwork is a subcategory of homework. Even if you have a job you can have homework.

And we're not here to help you with it.

Seconded. However I'm going to offer a little advice to point you in the right direction. Stick with what you're good at and keep it simple. It's trite, but it works

Scratch?

I used that alot a while back...

What do you need to know?

I made tons of multiplayer games using scratch programming from the time I was eight to the time I was fourteen. Then I got busy...

Barely used it in the last two years, aside from tiny projects...

I wouldn't exactly call Scratch a programming language...

Just make a simple mini-game or something.

Okay, get this.
A worldwide system on the internet, the database is meant to take all of the freely given medical records by any patient who wants to give them. This would allow not only doctors and medical professionals access to the medical statistics of global citizens, but also various scientists, sociologists, and anyone else.
This would allow those with diseases, syndromes, and other issues to put their information online in hopes to progress the fields of medical research. This could quicken the worldwide advancements in medical and other science and technological fields.
Perhaps, if we can see where diseases are going, which are diminishing, and which demographics certain issues are afflicting, we can be more accurate in our medical understand.

Do it.
Win a medal.
Name is whatever you want.
Make it Open Source.
Save human lives.
---

Then work on part two. This part is for the animals. Same thing, just for people who want to have their animals online and their medical needs available. This can extend to anything, even plants. Perhaps someone notices that their cherry trees are infected with a certain fungus, we can then track the spread.

---

This is a great idea. Send me pictures when you are finished.

You might want to look at Ludum Dare entries for an idea what other people did at that sort of thing.

How complex does it need to be? A programme to find perfect numbers or something like that could work.

Yeah, sure, and win him a Nobel Prize for figuring out how to calculate prime numbers. ;)

That's the only thing I've ever programmed, actually. I came up with my own formula for calculating them (basically the product of a Mersenne prime and the sum of multiples of two), and set it up in Java.

The only issue was calculating the primes, but I just divided by a sufficiently large set of base primes (2, 3, 5, 7,..) to satisfactorily rule out it being non-prime.

It wasn't "perfect", but I did pretty well at the Science Fair that year!

The primes are the central issue, indeed. I liked le Père Mersenne, though I only met him once. If you got on his mailing list, you were guaranteed a great deal of interesting reading. And he introduced me to Descartes, whom I adored.

Write a program that generates ideas for the competition it's to be entered into.

You could make a perceptron trained to classify input into two types (Like visually able to determine the difference between an L and an I for all valid forms of L and I)

I'm not sure if scratch is powerful enough for that but it would be a fun project. Since scratch seems very graphical you could perhaps find a way to do it graphically with a little drawing of a neuron and you can have it divided somehow perhaps using the threshold value to show the percent of correct classifications of each type.

Ha, I tried my hand at that program when I was eleven.

I wasn't fond of it.

Why are all the easy programming languages so crappy? How hard can it be to design a graphical programming system that actually incorporates all the necessary functions?

This is not a general help forum overall, but we wish you the best with your project all the same. Perhaps looking into some sites that specialize in this sort of thing might be more fruitful.
