Thank you. I don't hate you either.

the only cause I've been given to hate on certain atheists is when a certain group of atheists (I'm referring to the Anti-Theist crowd) decide to hate on religion, to call it's proponents stupid, to claim that it is a disease, to claim it is a cancer on the Earth, that it must be fought with a Secular Crusade (oxymoron?) and completely annihilated

I dislike that sort of atheist. I'm not an anti-theist, though I wouldn't mind seeing religion disappear naturally, like shadows in the dawn.

or in the case of the some big wigs in the U.K. merely most public displays of religion should be annihilated.

If such displays are using government property, I would agree. I personally favor a separation of church and state, but that doesn't mean that public displays of religion should be against the law. Rather, no one should be able to use the government (or its property) as a tool for spreading religion.

I have no problem with the atheists that say "I do not believe in God because I find there is no proof of God". I do however harbor a passionate dislike for someone who says, for example, that by funding my local catholic church, helping in St. Vincent de Paul, ect. that I'm stupid, ignorant, blind, and diseased, that if I do not forsake my religious beliefs that I should be put to death or ostracized from society.

I'm totally with you there.

My question to you is have you seen this coming tide?

Honestly, I think that you are exaggerating, and this isn't a "coming tide". It's more assholes being assholes. I don't think that anything like real persecution of theists is arriving in the West. You seem to have a martyr complex.

That said, I do think that anti-theism is on the rise among atheists, and even if that remains harmless politically, I don't think that it is such a good thing for their sake. Atheists need an educated and balanced view of religion, not some hysterical extremism that satisfies their need to distance themselves psychologically from religion.

The poll makes me even more afraid....
In any case, there is always another group hating another group because of that group's beliefs. This is the most recent and the deepest conflict so far.

Can't people just read the first page or two? They'd realize then that the people voting aren't advocating violence, but are okay with ridicule.

I approve of a tide of secularism, and reject the premise that it will be any more violent than the normal course of human affairs.

Yes, free speech is speech critical of others that we tolerate, and hate speech is speech critical of others that we don't. It's all very objective.

Yep. Hate speech is inflammatory. I haven't seen any atheist in this thread advocate hate speech yet.

You really aren't questioning if you never consider the possibility that you could be absolutely and completely wrong.

Loyal Roman Catholic.

Seems legit.
"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."—former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman

Er, no connection. I've met plenty of decent Catholics. It's the level of extremism that's being debated.
