You've got me confused with someone who approves of spectator sports in general...

Not really. Theres fucking loads of different sports in Europe.

I'm not saying American football gaining popularity is terrible or anyhting, but adding diversity? Please. We've got cheese rolling.

7's is a form of union. Close enough. Still 7's is better than nothing.

Okay, I take it back. What I meant was that American football become popular in Europe isn't going to hurt Europe in any way.

Yeah, you guys are diverse. But according to our rather misleading sports channels, all you have is soccer, or association football, as one might say.

Believe it or not, we have rugby in America.

So when I joined, my friends who play American football said that American football is tougher than rugby. I was like, "just shut up".

Rugby probably is harder to learn than American football, the lack of padding makes learning how to make and take a tackle much more important, but I wouldn't say that the hits taken in rugby are harder than in American football.

The helmet and padding make the hard hits much more survivable.

I actually picked up the game quickly. In rugby, the real pain is not from the tackles, its from the rucks. The refs can't see what goes on in there. I have been punched and kicked many times while in a ruck.

You should try front row in a scrum.

Considering that part of the attraction of European football to me is the fact that it's 22 men running around in shorts, with some of them fairly hot, I couldn't care less about a sport where the players wear scaffolding and masks.
"I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, and as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built in to the very nature of the universe. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior."

If I were in charge of the NFL I would rather try to sell some games to Russians.

I was aware a game would be taking place soon; I wasn't aware it was tonight. Nor do I particularly care.

Given that London is a large and multicultural city, I imagine an NFL team - a proper NFL team, not some second rate 'euro league' team - based in London would be successful provided the logistical travel issues could be overcome (Seattle, Oakland, and SF might not look forward to playing London away).

The main problem is that the NFL team would expect to play at Wembley - but there would rightly be an expectation locally that England international matches would take priority over the NFL. The NFL would therefore be in the exceptionally unusual (for the NFL) situation of not having first priority use of the stadium it would hope to use.

All those tight ends and wide receivers wearing skin-tight uniforms, gathering in a huddle, trying to grab hold of each other before showering naked - together.....

On that basis I'm not sure your average American football player or fan is that interested in women anyway; let's face it, it's the most homoerotic sport on the planet.
