When football means soccer in Europe, I know that they know that I know that they know that American rugby will never catch on in Europe. Such a shame their bastardized version caught on in Canada to such a point we have the CFL and refer to football as soccer, and American rugby as football.

I don't necessarily see what's so bad about using the word "soccer".

I am not a big fan of soccer by its current name. I hear football in reference to this tossed 'round all the time, thus, I got used to using football. And you know American rugby is bad when it feels like the only reason why ANYONE visits Saskatchewan is because of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Don't call it American rugby. American rugby is a different thing. How should I know? Because I'm American, and I play rugby. Look up USA Rugby. Hell, even Canada has rugby. Look up Rugby Canada.
You don't call Australian football Australian rugby do you? Call American football American football. Call Canadian football Canadian football, and call European football by its proper name, Association football.

Ironically, you can blame the British for Americans using the term "soccer."
Though I find this whole "waaaugghh our sport is better than yours" nonsense to be amusing. Although, really, *anything* is better than the NHL right now.
