http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Sandy#Impact = 70 confirmed deaths overall.

In nations like Haiti, its understandable since there aren't many warning systems and where will they go anyway but in US: where people were told to get out days before hurricane got anywhere near US coasts and it was all over the news: cant see how you can just get trapped.

The first person who was killed was not in an evacuation zone and was not outside in the storm. A tree fell on his house. Stop being a prat.

Yeah, the full moon. There is nothing worse than the stink of a wet werewolf.

You ever ride out a storm in one of them underwater boats?

Actually yes. There was one where we evacuated navsta Norfolk sending all the ships out to sea. Most of the rest headed up to the north Atlantic. We, on the other hand, were ordered under the storm with orders to attempt periscope depth every 4 hours to attempt to report condition. We never could make it all the way up. We would start feeling wave motion at about 400 feet, and then start feeling wave slaps on our bow planes at 150-200 feet (in short with a measured keel deptb of 200 feet, our bow was coming out of one wave and slamming into the next). :?

Huh. The troughs between waves were that deep? Amazing. Mother Nature, eh?

Even though I am in London I feel as if I am right on location with the images. I don't feel the wind but I feel the drama unfolding.

I keep feeling like if I go outside here in Colorado, my street will be flooded (my street floods whenever we have so much as a cold front) and it'll be windy as fuck.

It's absolutely clear, tonight, with not a cloud in sight.

We've had a number of brownouts, but seeing as we lost all the trees that could have fallen on power lines last time there was a major storm (they all fell on the power lines) I feel pretty good about my situation ATM. Also: generator is credit to team.

So anyone else hear about Bounty being sunk?

Hard to imagine blue water sailing ships still getting sunk in storms. Just seems so 19th century.

But if you go by the Mayan calendar, the actual date by their version of the solar calendar was a few months ago. December is just our version of the date, on our calendar. :p
