As a state-employee, I think having the Title box on benefits forms is a waste. It seems more economical to get rid of it and outgoing correspondence should be addressed by name. Claimants have enough of an issue correctly filling out more important parts of the form... anecdotally from a literalist perspective apparently about 20% of the population is trans* given how many John Does check the Mrs. or Ms. box and how many Jane Does check the Mr. box.

People shouldn't have to abandon titles entirely just to avoid hurting the feelings of a handful of people.
