Future Rifles for US Military

Postby Gig em Aggies » Sun Oct 21, 2012 2:17 pm

This thread is for the dicussion of possible future rifles for the United States Military.
you can't submit weapons before the 20th century
you can also submit weapons from other countries if you feel like that weapon could work for the US
you can submit bullpup rifles
you can also discuss the useage of knives & other combat blades to.
Here are some of my choices
Beretta ARX-160
Barrett REC7
Bushmaster ACR
IMI Tavor TAR-21
Robinson Armament XCR
XM-8 Rifle
M-14 Bulldog762

How about that enhanced M4 that's currently contending in the ICC?
Should do fine as long as the US wants a 5.56 rifle.

The U.S. military's rifle replacement program runs on Steam time. I'll query Gaben about this later.

rail guns and laser systems are okay as long as the technology is already here or is in the near future.

The US seems to be resisting them though.

It should be noted that bullpups do have more difficult handling.

Its not, by a long shot.

Rail guns, coil guns, lasers, and particle cannons cannons all have various downsides and consume massive amounts of energy.

We can't even get those kinds of technology working on big things like quasi-battleships, so anything small scale is out of the question.

The logistical burden of providing a fuel and prototype ammo source for the rifles is another concern.

Clearly the only reasonable option is a phased-polaron disruptor rifle.

I'd say the Scar-L Is the future in American military rifles. I would like to see America start to lean to bullpup weapons but it will have to be American made.

I heard the XM8 performed pretty good in trials, and I think it looks pretty cool, but IIRC correctly it was dropped in favour of the SCAR?

I think the IMI Tavor-21 looks awesome, but I don't know what its like as a weapon.

I can probably safely say it will be an American made weapon, or at least partly American if the Lobbyists have anything to do with. Might even be just a new upgraded M4/M16 or something.

In a few thousand years historians will read about Davy Crockett the Indian fighter, the weapon, and the extermination of native American populations and come to the conclusion that Mr. Crockett nuked the natives.

They'll keep the same they have now, maybe they modernize it, or buy some of the parts from other manufacturers.
