2012-2013 NHL Season Thread

Postby Christmahanikwanzikah » Mon Oct 15, 2012 5:11 pm

With the 2012-2013 NHL campaign already underway, and the Canadiens off to a hot start winning their first 5 games, I figured we should get a hockey thread going!

...

Or, you know, complain that Buttman and the owners aren't willing to take anything less than 57 percent of league revenue and are willing to sit an entire season (again). Or that the players and Fehr aren't happy taking less than 50 percent of the league's revenue after having their cut slashed to end the last lockout.

Either one's fair game. I moved to Buffalo with the expectation that I'd get to see moar hockey in a "real" hockey town ("Herp da South don't has sno, wai dey plays hockey derp"), and so far I get squat.

To start the discussion: Do you believe that an agreement can be reached before the Winter Classic? What happens if a labor deal isn't done by then?

(Obviously, the answers are "No" and "Year-long lockout," but I'm willing to hear other opinions.)

*sigh*
Sadly, I agree.
Also Frank Luntz are you fucking kidding me? I'm losing respect for the whole organization more and more every day.

Yes. the NHL and NHLPA need to get a deal done by Dec. 1st to save the Winter Classic.

If they miss the Winter Classic... then just cancel the season again, because there wouldn't be enough games really to have a meaningful regular season (40-45 games max by then).. and the NHL loses (and It already has) all the momentum it had gianed over the past 5-6 years.

Just waiting to read the ESPN article tomorrow saying that they talked about everything but the major points standing in the way between them and ending the lockout.

Because there's only so much small talk two people can have in a couple of months before it just gets old.

Cancelling this Winter Classic. In Hockeytown.

Yeah, that won't damage the image of the NHL owners.

Unfortunately, I think the owners and players are greedy enough and stupid enough to let the lockout go on for a whole season. AGAIN.

All this happened just after the Minnesota Wild were finally getting interesting, too, which is a real shame. I was hoping to be able to see some flashy hockey here for once in my life.

Ask, and ye shall receive.

Eventually. MAYBE. The league's still holding the line on contract lengths, which I still think is egregious, but this signals that there's still effort here to get a deal done.
