Is USA the Greatest nation in the World???

This question irritates me. Many claim it is, others claim it isnt. Does being the lone superpower in the world make you the greatest or does it depend on the life of the inhabitants??? Many claim that the Scandanavian nations are the greatest due to the life of there citizens yet have little military or political strength. China, you could say, has the greatest economy and military in the world yet the citizens live in poor conditions in many cases and under a fairly strict regime. Do you think USA is the greatest nation in the world and if not which is?? Please give educated answers.

No. We are more or less the same as everyone else. The difference is that we have the potential to be. We need to march into this century and make it ours, the way the British did with the 19th. Right now, we have the opportunity to reshape this world more to our liking, and we should seize the chance before the window closes.

Japan is the greatest nation in the world.

Why? Just think about it: An isolated nation formed by rather small islands, with little to no natural resources and a particularly high population density...and yet it has one of the world's most powerful economies and one of the highest qualities of life. They have the highest life expectancy in the world, their healthcare system is regarded as one of the best and their industry produces far more than many more naturally resourceful First World nations.

Oh...and did I mention Paro, the therapeutic robot baby seal?

All the United States has is the largest gross national product, the highest military spending, a handful of private universities that rank top in the world...oh, and a huge ego and an apparent obession with making everything "bigger". Other than that, they get surpassed by many far smaller nations.

i must admit if USA doesnt act fast on that the window will close and open to, i believe, china

Let's see, not the highest standard of living, not the safest, not the longest lifespans, not the least corrupt, not the best educated, not the most scientific achievements per capita, not the most upwardly mobile, not the highest GDP per capita, not the cleanest…

Nope, not seeing any "greatest" here.

come to think about it you could be right. Only thing they realy fall back on is military but thats one of the smaller fields to be considered

Canada.

The US is the greatest in one thing:
Space technology. And that's because no one has bothered to do that since the 70's. Hopefully private companies can compensate.

As a US citizen, no.

Far from perfect. We have bad politicians, never equal to everyone, some states hate certain people, if you're not Christian, we hate you, yada, yada, yada, hate, hate, hate.

Canada is great. So is UK I hear. And South Africa is starting to look good. Norway... Sweden... France...

As an American, I find that my fellow countrymen get confused into thinking that Power=Greatness.
America is very much the most powerful nation in the World. Greatness is subjective.

The problem with the United States of America, is that it generally seems to get itself into the mindset that just because someone doesn't like it, they're automatically a commie, a nazi or a muslim, and adheres to us/them mentalities I find frustrating.

Because these have been their enemies regarding war.

Plus they seem to have this unrestrained urge to be number one, and boss everyone around.

It's that obsession with nationalism and war, that seems to be the driving force behind the countries attitude, almost to the point of mind control. Which kinda beats the point of it promoting itself as the land of the free. I mean yes, free economically, but not free ideologically.

Needless to say, there are Americans who don't act like state puppets though. They're just hidden amongst a vast population of those that are.

My only problem with the US is the widespread opinion that they are the only free nation in the world. Many things are good about the US, but many things are not. I'd cite the general ignorance of the population (especially geographically) and their political slowness to allow certain civil rights to homosexuals that were all given in Europe decades ago.

Yeah, that only applies to the non-urban parts of the South at best, and the South isn't Catholic.
