Good. So we've decided.
I'm going as an Indian Brave. I'll probably do the war chant as well.

It's not okay. I might be a white, American girl with no culture to speak of, but that doesn't mean that I can't say, "hey, reconsider that costume because it's fucking insensitive."

Hopefully it won't be seen as racist against Kryptonians.

If you want to see real racism, go to Russia. The Neo Nazis there will jump an immigrant and beat him to a pulp just because of his race. Not this fake racism where making a black joke equates you to Hitler.

Tubbsalot wrote:Er, I could understand a native American or Arab being upset about the respective costume, but the geisha costume has to be one of the least offensive stereotypes in the world (not to mention there's no implication that every Asian is a geisha). And I don't even understand the one for the black woman. Are they stereotypically targeted by vampires?
This is coming across as oversensitivity, to me at least. How far does it go? Obviously there are no ye olde Victorians around these days, but would it still be disrespectful to dress up in flouncy ye old clothes?
Edit: wait, is the black woman's one meant to be that she's slathered in phat bling (i.e. one sadly obnoxious necklace)?

Secondly, IT'S JUST A COSTUME. I don't see why everything has to be so politically correct, it's just a bloody costume. If some black person dressed up as a white person I wouldn't demand that they take it off and call them racist because I really don't care. It's a free country. Likewise, if somebody came up to me and starting denouncing my race or culture then I really wouldn't care. And then, it's always a minority of people that complain. I'm sure the majority of people from other races really don't care how a few people dress up for Halloween. People who constantly bitch about this kind of thing really irritate me, I just don't understand why they can't get on with their lives. Of course, if you're being lynched by the Ku Klux Klan or whatever they're called, that's different. But it's just a Halloween costume, some people really do need to grow up.
