No schools shouldnt give out free condoms. Condoms cost money but they should be made easily availible in like vending machines. The school will not lose money and more teenagers will have safe or should i say safer sex. Also the nurse should be able to give girls the pill if requested by the student or parent.

Most teenagers are too embarrassed to walk in and buy condoms at the store, but that does not mean that they are going to stop having sex; it simply means that they are going to have unprotected sex and risk std's and pregnancy. Sure, we can argue that if these kids are old enough to be having sex, then they are old enough to accept the responsibility that they have to get their own condom, if they want one.



While there is a grain of truth to this statement (teenagers should be more responsible) the fact remains that it is a false line of reasoning. Teenagers are irresponsible (for the most part). They are stuck in that stage of adolescence where the hormones are raging so fast that they override most (if not all) rational thought, and if schools were to give out condoms then they would be condoning good behavior (although I don't think that teens having sex is good behavior).

You say that teenagers are going to have sex but the numbers don't pan out this moral panic. Perhaps 20-30% will have sex in high school, but it seems that most Americans lose their virginity between 18 and 20, which means they are adults. There are some moral crusader types trying to create a moral panic by pointing out that almost 50% of "teens" between 15 and 19 have had sex... Technically 18 and 19 are teenage years because they are numerically teen numbers, but those people are adults. The numbers are greatly reduced when 18 and 19 year olds are excluded from the data.

Anyway...

I suppose they might as well distribute drugs so the kids don't have to go to drug dealers, associate with criminals, and risk being ripped off or buying tainted products.

They might also want to serve as a fence for stolen property that way kids who steal don't have to associate with gang members and shady people when they try to fence the goods.

Schools cannot give out a tylenol without a note from a doctor and you want them to be able to give out hormonal based birth control to a MINOR female student just because she demands it? A medicine that requires a prescription from a doctor and which may have adverse side effects.

As stated before, several times, condoms cost less that 6 cents to make. The manufacturers would LOVE the chance to put their product in front of a market segment AT COST in order to procure future business.
