Describe your teenage years

Postby Melas » Tue Oct 09, 2012 12:03 pm

In the western world the teenage years are often described as the carefree years of your life,in which you are sourounded by friends,do not have to get a job and everything is made out of bacon. However there are people who claim that as 'pure bullshit' and claim them to be the worst ones.So whats your opinion on that, how were your teenage years?Do you wanna go back?

My years

Well I am currently a teen I guess and so far life is not what I expected it,well I go out more but friendship is totall bullcrap and everyone is always criticizing,I have some fun times but I get really anxious on other times for no reason and just do not enjoy them as much as I want to.I guess they are preety normal, going out once in a while, studying etc.. Though I wish I had some 'real' friends to hang out with more but I guess its still better than others.I am that much into sports, though I am on a team and I am average/good at studies.Hope it gets better soon :(

How much has your life changed since then, for the good/for the worse etc

My teenage years mostly took place between the ages of 10 and 20.

I'm not going into too much detail, but overall, it was an interesting experience, though my teenage self might think that my current self is an asshole :p

I'm in my final months of being a teenager. Looking back, I had good times and bad, missed opportunities, mistakes, triumphs and success.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Allow me to quote the relevant truth from Surviving the World.
"If the best years of your life were in highschool then for your sake I hope you died tragically at 19."

Everyone's teen years are pretty shit.

Summary by year

13, my parents had just divorced, so good improvement there. I no longer had to have anything to do with my father.
14, lost my virginity (in that I had sex with someone from my age group rather than someone much older)
15, developed my first and only real crush on a girl, which was confusing.
16, nothing special.
17, quit school, never went back.
18, got a soul crushing job I hated.
19, still at soul crushing job I hated.

Not mine. They were great.

Since 12 to 16, at least. 17 was rather bad (I graduated high school), 18 and 19 were good but not like high school.

Year 2005, when I was 16, was the best in my entire life. I'd like to relive those times.

Open to answer any questions.

No. If that needs answering, such event still hasn't happened.

Why was it great? It was my best year at high school. Best grades - best experiences with my group of friends, who thankfully I still keep. Going to the Annual Book Fair of that year, I bought off the entire Evangelion manga issues at the time, after passing the hardest test in the entire year (Logic - Drill Sergeant Nasty teacher).

Also met some of the greatest teachers I've ever had.

My class - me included - painted a huge mural in the school walls. Here's a picture of that time, behind me.

*Sigh* The only thing missing was the romance. But nevertheless it was a wonderful time.

They weren't bad, I guess. I was bullied in junior high school, but I was also way less sensitive back then, so it wasn't really terrible, and then in high school most of things were quite fun. I was very polite and introverted, so I wasn't getting in trouble with authority figures (except for my father, but oh well, nobody's life is perfect). I kind of regret how much of a good girl I was, but well, I'm 20 now, living on my own and I intend to live a little  But I also became less confident and more sensitive with age. I used to care less about things, and maybe that's why my earlier teenage years were not bad.
As for how much my life changed... well, I'm studying and living in another city, becoming independent and it's stressful (so little money T_T), but also really cool. I met a lot of new people and I'm taking steps towards becoming 100% independent and having a career. Overall, I think that adult life is pretty cool and I wouldn't like to relive my teenage years, even though they weren't a nightmare or anything like that.
Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt.

Fairly nondescript: some ups, some downs, as to be expected. Getting your own place is great, paying for your own bills, not so much. All in all they were good enough, if unremarkable.

They were horrible and desperately unhappy, even with the benefit of time that's meant to make things look better in hindsight, and if I had a choice between death and going back to 12 and doing them over again I'd happily choose death in a heartbeat.

The fact that I came out the other side with only a minimal level of dysfunction is a miracle.
