Nope, the United States must not expect an invasion from China. Especially since the 2 country's entire economies rely on one another, not even mentioning the United States owes $15 trillion to China!

We can start to take the PRC seriously as a blue water power when they start investing in many more support ships and minesweepers.

If you're going to worry about the PRC, worry about the reasons behind the latest trumped up dispute with Japan.

Notes on the Liaoning

Postby Aquestia » Tue Sep 25, 2012 5:25 pm

The Liaoning is technically a training vessel for PLAN pilots to prepare when a domestically-built carrier, most likely a CATOBAR carrier with Nimitz- or Ford-class capability. At the very least, it may be a helicopter carrier with capability similar to the Invincible class or the old Kiev class. Note that China has the Shenyang J-15 (essentially a rebadged and rebranded Sukhoi Su-33), and has combat stats similar to the American F/A-18E Super Hornet, and is also developing the J-31, presumably another carrier fighter that has stealth and two engines, along with F-35 spec styling. They also have the Ka-27 Helix antisubmarine helicopter they can use to threaten subs in the South China Sea, and plenty of modern tech retrofitted for carrier ops. Not exactly a very good start, but it still works.

Most likely the ship will be deployed to the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands to combat Japanese influence, or the South China Sea (what China calls the South Sea) to strengthen China's hold on the sea itself, not just the Spratly Islands (Nansha Dao) or Scarborough Shoal (Xisha Dao).

Read the following if you want to find out what China has supposedly planned.

In the past 20 years, China has been actively retired aircraft carrier purchased from other countries, in order to master the technology needed to develop aircraft carriers. Chinese media has reported that Chinese-made aircraft carrier construction work will be conducted in two phases: the first stage of the construction of four gas turbine equipped with the aircraft carrier, two of which manufacture is completed in the 2015-2016 years ago, displacement in the 5 -5.5 tons; in the second phase will start construction of a displacement of 65,000 tons of nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. In other words, the Chinese navy will eventually build four to six aircraft carrier battle groups, were stationed in the South China Sea and East China Sea waters.

The 2018 Aircraft Carriers and Destroyers should resemble something like this.

The three destroyers each have a phased-array radar, so the software used is the same, in order to facilitate the exchange of information and weapons systems are also standard equipment, this software system is called China Aegis, and information sharing is a major feature of the three warships, but the main thing is Remote Assistance of the three warships, that is, one of them also can controls the other’s weapons systems.

The early warning aircraft of them is called Maritime Police 2000.

The DF-21 is utter bs. China doesn't have the OTH Radar capability or the long-range ELINT drones to guide the missile during its terminal phase. And not only that, it's not hard to kill a DF-21 on reentry. Just fire a volley of RIM-163's and RIM-174, and the warheads and decoys will be destroyed, or at the very least, deflected away from the carrier. Add CIWS, lasers, and KKV's, and the DF-21 becomes very weak very fast.

And by 2015, the USN/ROKN/JMSDF will have new tech that can kill a DF-21 before it even hits LEO.

Wanna know the Russian plan for attacking an American carrier group? Bombard it with 8 200 kiloton nuclear missiles just to disable the carrier groups electronic warfare capabilities enough for a kill shot with conventional missiles. That was during the Cold War. Technology has come a long way since the 1980s, carries aren't as easy to kill as you think.

I'm always amused by that acronym, since CATO is used in rocketry for "catastrophe at take-off".

Nah, I don't see anything like an operational deployment for it. They'll keep it well within their territorial waters if for no other reason than avoiding the embarrassment if some genius were to do something stupid with it (collision with another ship, run aground on a shoal, or similar typical new toy boo-boos).

All wishful thinking on your part. Engineers are the ones who will develop many of the new military items of the future. Read the following. Study by Duke University.

The study also states that in 2011, while roughly 70,000 engineers graduated in the US, 6,00,000 graduated in China and 3,50,000 in India.

I think it is good that the PRC is building its military strength, especially with its air and sea forces and defense systems in relation to both. The US has increased its build up of military assets aimed at the China, so it only makes sense for it to increases expansion and the advancement of its military capabilities. Good for the SCO too. Its too bad China has a history of copying weapons on a large scale, Russia and China could take part in military cooperation on the scale Russia and India do.
