MySpace's fourth, yes, fourth relaunch.

Postby Charlotte Ryberg » Tue Sep 25, 2012 5:02 am

In a nutshell, MySpace will have to rely on the current woes of Facebook in respect of privacy and falling shares, but they'll have to do a lot more than just music if they are to take advantage of Facebook's troubles.

I used to have one, back in... about 2006-2007, I think. Never paid much attention to it.

Uh, if it was Betamax, wouldn't it end by the 1980s? :p

Seriously, I don't have accounts there but I might be joining it in the future. After all, it is a greyfield site, looking for a new inflow of users, lost in the sea of the internet. I do hope that it will succeed and will NOT end up like Pets.com (oy, anybody remembering the days of the dot-com boom on here?). I think the relaunch might halt the demise for at least 10 more years.

MySpace should just pack up and leave. Zuckerberg did a better job of attracting new customers. I find it unlikely for any new kid on the block (or old, considering its MySpace) to become the next Facebook because people have so much time and data invested in it already.

I daresay the North Korean Missile Command having been giving MySpace helpful tips and advice on launches. Should be terribly productive, what?

There were three relaunches before this. The latest incarnation of the design is pretty like the Windows 8 Metro theme although solid colours appear to return to the design trend, along with white and pale shades for the interface and more emphasis on user submitted graphics such as photos. Unlike before, it does show a lot of potential because of the clarity but it remains to see how people will receive its new privacy policy. Again, with great graphics and a good logo the MySpace has the potential to capitalise on the woes of Facebook.

For reference, here is how bad MySpace used to look like:

Facebook (FB) is currently trading at $20.73 -0.06‎ (-0.29%‎).

I use to have one from 2005-2007/2008, then I switched over to Facebook and quit that in late 2011, and have been free from either one since.

The biggest shock in that story was that apparently Justin Timberlake is now part owner of MySpace...
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

My Space died when Tom Anderson left , it didnt take long for the site to go downhill once he left , i found my self drifting further away from My Space in late 2009 as soon as 2010 came along i was on Facebook 99% of the time.

Well, I can't rule out the possibility of Facebook ending up like that if MySpace finally does it. Not guaranteeing it, though.

I didn't know MySpace still existed. I haven't logged in since *goes to my MySpace page* 12 September 2008.

I didn't know the old girl was still around. And what the f*** was I thinking when I chose *that* background?

Please note: Central Lothian is the direct successor to Mid Lothian*. As a result, I am still called Rebecca, I am still a Grammar Nazi and most information pertaining to ML also applies to CL (although I will be taking this time to change a few things).

* - And I may refer to the country as Mid Lothian. If I do, assume that I mean Central Lothian. (And not to be confused with "Midlothian" - I'm using that as a fascist version of CL.)

I don't know why MySpace is still around. Why are they even trying anymore? They're not going to surpass Facebook. Even Google+ is doomed to fail, and they've got a far better chance than anyone, especially MySpace. They should just give up already.

What I'm wondering is, will Facebook continue to live on for the rest on the 21st century, or will it go the same way as the dinosaurs MySpace in a few years?
