No crazed weasels this time? Aw man...

Not quite Presidential Election related, but still:

It looks like Todd Akin is picking up some big name endorsements...

...the catch being that they're endorsements from Rick Santorum and Jim DeMint.

I wonder if a Santorum endorsement is going to be as toxic as Romney's campaign seems to be?

The Emerald Dawn wrote:So Ann Romney was on Leno last night, and apparently decided to say that Mitt was "joking" when he said he didn't know why the plane windows wouldn't roll down. She also said that she's been getting "high-fives" since her "stop being mean" statement.

Yet again, Mitt has to have his wife come out and "interpret" for the "common folks".

Why am I filled with the sudden urge to cram Romney into a locker?

I go into rage mode every time Republicans claim that they're somehow victims of all the "meanness" going around this election- like their race baiting and red baiting for the last four years just didn't happen.

4 years?

They've been red-baiting constantly since the 1950s. They've been race-baiting since Nixon started the Southern Strategy, and it only stepped up when Lee Atwater used Willie Horton as the iconic Scary Black Guy Who Democrats Love.

At long last, the Republican Party's fear, hatred and disdain for anything that doesn't fit into their neat little 1950s, leave-it-to-Beaver worldview has utterly consumed the last remnants of their decency. Perhaps now, they'll finally implode under the weight of it all, and leave the political scene clear for a sane conservative party to emerge.
Fuck it all. Let the world burn - there's no way roaches could do a worse job of being decent than we have.

Inoffensive Centrist Democracy

If the democrats can keep putting forward reasonable candidates, I think the republicans may experience something akin to old labour in the thatcher-major era of the wilderness years, at which point they'll be moderatized as people will accept that they can't elect right wing candidates anymore, and need to dash for the centre to avoid centre-leftism.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

"Moderate" is a dirty word in today's Republican Party, whether used as an adjective or a noun. If you think that the party as a whole will choose to moderate (adjective) their beliefs rather than ride them down in flames, you're painfully mistaken.

Hey everybody remember how "Corporations are people, my friend" and how this means that they should be able to donate without limit. Seems, that while corporations are people that teachers are not thus their contributions should be limited.

Shocking I tell ya, just shocking.

Let's see, corporations are people, unions are corporations themselves, unions should have their campaign contributions limited...

I think you're getting hold of the wrong end.

It's not about whether they are people or not.

Teachers simply can't be trusted to regulate themselves, and letting them contribute to politicians obviously means that politicians will be incapable of dealing objectively with teachers.

Contrast this to corporate interests, who obviously.

Ah. Yeah. I see the problem.

Disenfranchising democratic voters, blocking campaign contributions to Democrats while allowing them to Republicans, and so on. If Romney wants a single-party system why doesn't he simply come out and say so?

Well, I've decided to vote this election year. Not for Obama, but mostly to do my part to make sure Linda McMahon does not become my state's next Senator. This will be my first election voting (I've been registered since 2008, but I've yet to vote). I guess I'll vote for Obama in the presidential too, even though Connecticut will be solidly blue.
Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?

Really, the important part is that you've decided to engage. That's a positive, regardless of who you choose best represents your interests. Apathy is what's largely to blame for the current political climate.

Clearly you haven't listened to a CPAC rally lately. GOP have pretty much outlined that they want to control ALL of the governments with no regard to anyone else ever.
