The 2012 Three Ring Circus AKA The US Presidential Election

Postby NERVUN » Sun Sep 16, 2012 3:25 am

Before I get yelled at, we still have the 500 page limit and the previous thread has more or less reached it. Here then be the new space to talk about the upcoming election, your predictions, rants about the candidates, and just views on the process in general.

A quick reminder of the rules: (from viewtopic.php?f=20&t=183223 )

'Cutesy' nicknames for political parties (I.e. Republicunt or Democrap), political philosophies (Libural), OR politicians (Barry or Mittens) will see us bringing that hammer down hard. We don't care if it was a childhood nickname, we don't care if this was allowed two seconds ago, or that someone else said it. We don't like having to do this, but the history of NSG shows that it is needed.

And as always, once the election passes, gloating, no matter who won or lost will not be tolerated. Take it else where.

TL;DR, Please try to maintain a certain decorum in your political conversations, not attempting to anger people. I.e. Play nice.

Previous thread can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=185075

And enjoy. Try not to blow up the forum before November. :p

Nervun, could we please get a poll? I like polls. *nods*

Anyway, I'm still pro-Obama and pro-Stein and my vote (if I were allowed to vote) would either go to Stein (if I lived in a state which was sure to go for the Democrats/Republicans) or Obama. (if I lived in a swing state).

EDIT: And suddenly, there was a poll!
EDIT2: Typo

I think the last few pages of that thread was just being devoted to short laughs and jokes as seeing most of the debate's been done already.

I for one welcome poll option 5, though I was tempted to vote for a third party candidate. Then I remembered the Simpsons' quote.

I voted for the not American option as it applies. However, I feel that Obama should win as I don't know very much about the alternatives who aren't Romney. Naturally, I don't want Romney to win because I think that he's the sort of person that makes America a more difficult place for the rest of the world.

That is why I just re-posted what was pretty much my first post in that thread. It wasn't really about RomneyvObama any more either.

I notice that you'll be banning gloating after the election has finished. I was wondering would that perhaps you might want to ban the inevitable 2016 election threads that will appear seconds after the results have been announced? Give us at least a couple of days without all this American presidential nonsense.

I have never wanted anything more in my life.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

I find it relatively ignorable. That said, no-one ever quotes me in these sorts of threads so I don't even bother checking and many of them I don't get so don't bother with.

Depending on how Obama is polling in Indiana before the election will decide how I vote. If he's behind enough it won't matter, I'll vote for Stein, assuming she actually is on the ballot. Otherwise, Obama.

Well in my district we use electronic voting machines (no printout), which you can't do a write-in on.

Obama. While imperfect, he's the best of the lot, and seems to actually have a handle on what the major issues are facing America both domestically and internationally. Also, while he doesn't allow other governments to dictate foreign policy, he does take into account how American actions will be seen overseas, and incorporates that into his decision making process, which leads to a bit less resentment of us elsewhere.

"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."—former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman

Probably voting for Obama, although he's probably not going to win Indiana. Our senate race is more important.
